some people have remarkably poorly calibrated scam radar...

I'm in a big group text and some people got texts from "alumni relations" staff trying to confirm their address to send a gift...everybody was freaking out that this was a scam, that the mailing list had been hacked and that russian bots were phishing people and this needed to be reported to the administration immediately before they hack more things, etc.

The person who did go ahead and report them to the administration finally came back like "You guys aren't going to believe this, but THEY ARE REAL!!"

Of course they were real ******* texts.

"Bob from alumni relations" is probably some kid they gave a work study job to to confirm contact information and beg for donations. The messages also didn't even ask you to reveal new information, they just asked "do you still live at X"
