Things that last a lifetime

To the older members, what is something (not just clothing) that you have kept and used for a long time in your life? Whatabout if you could turn back the clock, something you wish you would have gotten earlier?

And to the younger members, what is something that you have now that you can see yourself keeping for the rest of your life?

I ask this because my history teacher who is around 70 has a Filson briefcase that shows great patina. I asked him about it one day and he told me it was the same one he used in college, and that just makes me want to get something of that quality to last me a lifetime and I wanted some ideas for things that would last me a lifetime.

I think the obvious one is a high quality watch but I'm looking for other things.

thats pretty cool im getting a filson 256 pretty soon myself.

for me so far its my favorite cast iron pan. its going to last forever. i cook everything in it.

I really want to buy a watch when I graduate from undergrad, I hope that will last me for a long time. Finding a significant other would also be nice.

If it's material, then I'll have to say tools. I have invested heavily in quality hand tools that I'll take everywhere with me. As for the immaterial, then it's continuing education.

50% of the time, anyway (actually far less when you consider failed relationships that don't result in marriage). I would say a McIntosh amplifier and really good speakers. My mother has had hers for 30 or 40 years now. It's been in for some work now and then but it's still kicking.

I wish I had bought some art I liked back in the 80's that is crazy now.

Some furniture. E.g., I have a dresser that I inherited from my grandfather. It's been in my bedroom since I was four. It has survived about twenty moving days. Some patina going on but I've never considered replacing it. Heirloom quality is the way to go with furniture.
