A line I'm never sure what to do with:

Are you still enjoying your entree?

Umm, well, there's just bones left, so unless you think I'm a mastiff, chances are good that yeah, I've sucked all the "enjoyment" out of that plate.

^Eh, I prefer that to the presumptuous types that reach for a plate I'm still working on. Of course, I eat at ****** chain restaurants.

So, I made a chocolate bourbon pecan pie. Sounds good right? The chocolate nearly ruined it, overpowered the other flavors. The best bites were the ones with no chocolate, where you could really taste the bourbon and the vanilla with the crunchiness of the pecans. Wasted a whole pie. Now I know. Desserts with more than two adjectives are usually trouble.

Last night, when the cat woke me up to alert me to the fact that a bat was flying circuits around our bedroom (good, good cat), and we ultimately secured the room and opened some windows so the bat could fly out, not only did the bat NOT fly out, but another damn bat flew in the now-open and screenless windows.

Incidentally, whoever named the common species of bat up here 'the Little Brown Bat' has never had two of them flying a foot from their face while they lay on the floor trying to stay the hell out of the way while watching to learn just when the bat flies out - because they don't seem so damn little at the time. I'd swear the larger of the two had an 8" wingspan.

It is so hard to find a chicken under 3 lbs here. Almost all of the stores only have 5.5 lbs+. Trying to make Thomas Keller's fried chicken and he really recommends a smaller bird for better skin-to-meat ratio.

I ate at Imo's pizza in Missouri and it was garbage ass. Provel cheese tastes like rat feces and listeria and stuck to my teeth until I brushed them. I'm not sure why I expected better from the flagship pizza of the Outback Steakhouse of U.S. cities, St Louis.

One of my favorites is when a waiter/waitress asks you "How does your meal taste?" while its plain to see that we're either waiting for the rest of the table to be served or when its evident that no one has taken a bite in the 30 seconds since it arrived. They're in a rush to check off those hospitality boxes!

They were probably just wondering if you wanted more ranch dressing.

Or when they ask just as you've taken a big bite of it.

I am sick and tired of restaurants refusing to serve genre-appropriate beers.

Two examples:

Contigo in Noe Valley - a spanish tapas restaurant - serves a huge IPA and some weird japanese rice beer ... and not once in ten years has carried something basic that you would drink with tapas, let alone a spanish beer like Alhambra. When I am eating tapas I want a spanish beer - not some hop monster IPA.

A recent addition to the fairfax (marin) scene is Mas Masa - a mexican restaurant that serves *tacos*. They have no mexican beers. They have a tremendous, impressive, high-brow beer list - but not a single mexican beer that someone might prefer to drink with ... mexican food.

I appreciate a well done beer list. Sometime I just want a Modelo with my tacos.
