Went to the dry cleaner to pick up/drop off and he had two envelopes for me. One contained a $20 bill that I had left in an item of clothing. The other contained a set of cuff links that I had left hanging in the shirt cuffs. I was super relieved to get those back.

I'm not sure if your unique skill set would be a "fit" for my organization. Well...hell...any organization? ;)

One of his issues, that he said in so many words, is that I need to hold his hand more. I told him that for six figures I expect people not only to not need hand holding but to be self directed and come to me with solutions for problems they've identified. He then moved to to I don't give him enough praise. I rattled off a list of things I praised him for. He told me he needs daily praise. I told him I could give him 20 minutes a day to call his mother if he needed that.

    haha.

Seriously though, people that whine about not getting enough praise are babies.

I get praise when I earn it. I don't expect any otherwise.

People who require it were coddled and given participation trophies during their formative years.

while i dont entirely disagree with that, it is important to give ones employees the proper amount of positive reinforcement for their good work to keep them happy and working hard.

My true evil genius: first of the year he has to have a set of deliverables for the first six months of 2012, metrics, reporting frequency and mechanisms. He will present this too me, I will somewhat modify it, then fire him the first time he fails to live up to the performance plan he wrote for himself.

BAM! No severance, no unemployment, no chance of litigation.

I'm so good I scare myself.

Who is "he?" Who am I? And not living up to your performance plan is not living up to your performance plan.

As I keep saying, I like the cut of your gib.

Picking tonight's dinner wine out of Cellar Tracker right now :)

I am benevolent to those that serve me well and an awesome foe to those that do not.

Besides, failure is his option. If he succeeds I'll give him an extra five minutes on the phone to mom :)
