Cute friend of friends of mine I talked to for like a minute at a party yesterday took the trouble of walking over to me to say goodbye and mentioned that she's sure that we'll run into each other again sometime.

I'll watch a few live games a year, but I don't care who's playing - I'l see a few sox games, a few cubs games, and a few hockey games a year, but no fucking way I'm going to watch it in tv or follow stats. I don't really want to know the names of the people who are chasing the balls around.

I don't follow tv very much, or movies or music made after 1995, either. I used to, just to be polite, now I don't really need to.

You prefer your sports with a healthy dose of concealed corruption and a side of molestation, I take it. :nodding:

Well, I could always follow politics or religion. oh, wait.

That said, I think (but can't prove) that smaller schools tend to run cleaner programs - or at least not at the same scale of corruption.

Meh, sports at every level is full of corruption and/or manipulated outcomes of some sort. My high school, a relatively "elite" private high school in Baltimore, has a consistently top-ranked football team. This is at a school with average class size of about 110 guys. There's no money at stake, well, not much anyways, no real glory, but "we" recruit big, fast, strong athletes from the Baltimore City public schools system and crown them heroes, even as talented young would-be scientists or poets rot in the same failing city school system because they can't bench 250.

And have you seen what they do to kids in little league these days?

Sports are fucked up, and that takes a lot away from it for me. But I still love baseball. I tried boycotting it a few years ago, and frankly I probably ought to what with the Orioles being such a miserable franchise, but I just can't help enjoying the ritual of going to a game and having a hot dog and a beer and listening to the bats crack and the crowd cheer. And I'm a pretty rabid Ravens fan and always enjoy the NFL. Sometimes it makes me feel dirty, but the pros are probably the least corrupt of any level.

I guess I just like sports, sometimes in spite of myself. But then again, I'm not a homo like the rest of you.

    1. yes, those peeps aught to be slapped

    2. i hear that, but it also has a lot to do with family tradition as well. i live in bmore but im a dyed in the wool broncos fan cuz i was born in denver and i watched my dad root for them all the time. so it just became part of the family culture.

you are not a true SF'er in that case, lol

just reading that first part pisses me off. baltimore is such a shit city.

im not even a big orioles and their organization (read owner) makes me want to pull my hair out. but, he is making so much fucking money i dont think he cares about it tbh.

making me happy that i unintentionally sparked a sports conversation by bemoaning how little interest there is for sports here. haha. awesome.

I don't know about that. I just got them a VS bra and am looking to ship them some Agent P in the future if all goes well. But....we do it for them, you know?
