1. I'd like to announce that animated avatars are now available again. You'll have to reload, but they are once more possible.

We've been doing a ton of work behind the scenes. The site load speed was already under 1/2 of what Huddler's was, on average, and we installed cloudflare, which means that the site should be even faster. A ton more will go on in the weeks and months to come, and some things will be more visibile, and some less.

    Cheers,

    Fok.

So I mentioned a while ago the stuff happening with our county party. Well we finally had elections last night. Kind of.

The good guys won. The current chair didn't show up, only had four of his supporters there, and wasn't even nominated.

HOWEVER, he apparently has called elections for next Friday in conjunction with our holiday party. Which really doesn't matter because the state party has already said last night's election was the only one that will be considered valid.

Don't know what else will happen but while everything is done it still isn't.

I stood outside a WalMart for two hours this morning, in 7°F weather, ringing a bell for the Salvation Army. I had my iPod Christmas playlist going and was singing carols like a blithering idiot.

    It was freakin' awesome!

It was sort of fun watching who dropped money in the red bucket and who didn't.

I understand that being located outside a WalMart isn't exactly a good cross-section of the populace, but overwhelmingly, the folks who gave money today were dressed like you'd expect someone in the lower end of the socio-economic strata. The nicely dressed people, for the most part, walked by and even went so far as to avert their eyes.

I stared at those cheap-ass bastards, grinding my indignation into their psyches.

The nicely dressed people itemize on their taxes and only give in ways that can be documented to the IRS. [IMG] (No doubt, some truth to that. At least in my case.)

Nice job though, Rube. Giving of one's time is probably the best thing we can give. Even Bill Gates only has 24 hours in a day.

I'm 99% sure I just figured out a way to save my company 12,500$ in software licenses, reduce labor time for our temps by 90% (or about 10,000$ a week) , and almost completely eliminate error rate on our biggest project by automating a process that requires about 520 hours a week. [IMG]

Wow. You better be looking at a fat bonus for pulling that off.

Had a really good run this morning, hit roughly the pace I wanted, got into distress about mid-way, and was still able to finish the run - at a faster pace for the second half than I did for the first. Psychologically, this is huge.
