1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

I just finished writing a journal article. I've had a really productive semester of writing, about which I am happy about. Now I'm going to go home and enjoy a byrrh.

see, people like to give me crap about being old and pre-internet, pre-smart-phone and all that, but the upside of it all is that when I used to blow twinks for beer money, there wasn't someone with a phone and 4G to take my picture and upload it for the world to see. kids these days...

If I give you all one guess at what I finally succeeded in purchasing, you will probably get it right. Yup, I finally got myself a bottle of Byrrh! I'm not a connoisseur, so I don't really have the vocabulary to describe what I'm tasting, but it's definitely in the ballpark of port, but much fruitier and with more bitterness. (I'm not sure if that's the quinine?) Anyway, I like it!

I went to a liquor store in a wealthy suburb of STL. A salesperson asked me if he could help and I said yes, I am looking for byrrh. He said he had never heard of that didn't even know what I was discoursing about "I've never heard of that." Then he called in a senior sales associate, who also did not know the drink. I told them it was on their website, and so he went back and looked. Sure 'nuff he found it for me and allowed me to purchase it.

Thanks to all my Styleforum friends who helped make this possible!

    Congrats!
Which type did you try? would you go for it again? I was gonna grab a bottle of port later but might just cop out to try this instead (or maybe just get both?)

I think there's only one kind available: it is Violet Freres Byrrh Grand Quinquina. I've only had a very small quantity, but yes, I think I'd buy it again.

Going to a huge Christmas party tonight and I shall drink a martini. Cannot drink several because I will be in the presence of my father who would not appreciate seeing my dick tonight.
