Interesting. Did you get him interested in John Lobb's? Because I've never met another human being who's know what a John Lobb is outside of the forum. Of course, I don't hang around in the Nieman Marcus shoe department often, but still.

He has a moderate interest in menswear, and I think he learns about brands from sources like Robb Report. When he wants to know more detail about that stuff, he talks to me about it. I'm pretty sure I'm not the one who told him about Lobbs.

He really surprised me in today's conversation when he talked about Sutor Mantellassi.

I knew about Lobb in college. I had a subscription to GQ at the time, back when it was worth reading. Of course, back then they got wide-eyed over Armani, too - so YMMV

Lobb is still a bit different than Church's,JM WESTON and the other good shoes...

It is as bit like Berluti ,EG ;The next level...

I have discovered Lobb here and I was a JM WESTON customer for years..

Honestly, after you have worn all the brands, IMO, there is bespoke and there is RTW everything in between is splitting hairs.

Have you told him about SF? If he's as witty as you, then he'd be welcome here.

He knows about SF, but I would definitely not want him to post here. I don't want people I know IRL to see the kind of stuff I post on the forum! (My forum personality is certainly a part of my real personality, but not a part I share too much with the wider world.)

Also, thank you for the compliment!

I had him look at EG and Weston too. He was very impressed with the EGs, although of course he was just judging from images on the Internet.

While poking around, I found a pair of Lobb double monks in green. There are times I wish I weren't a university professor in the humanities, making the kind of salary that such a professor makes!

Thanks, guys. I suffer from self-doubt in many areas of my life, most notably relationships with women. I'm going to go in confident that I have as good a shot as anybody . . .

. . . by channeling my inner stitchy on getting women way out of my league. :D
