who the fuck am I kidding... I was trying to not care about the baseball season starting, but hearing the Yankees vs Red Sox on the radio makes me want to be in the stadium watching the game.

Well considering I am actually an internationally-known expert in my field (not even kidding) and you're... a junior consultant still doing bitch-ass grunt work yes I will look down on you.

Ha, thanks. I'm pretty good at minding the line between having fun meeting random people while traveling and getting into tricky situations. Everybody has crazy eyes in a rooftop bar in the wee hours, I think. The dude was a little crazy, but in a harmless way. India ex-pat rich kid returning to Mumbai to work in dad's luxury goods business, 24 years old and desperately eager to convince everyone he's a player. He made a big deal of flashing cash, paying for rounds and making sure the waiters knew who his dad was -- I actually had to work pretty hard to pay for enough drinks not to feel like a heel. He kept talking smack about all the money to be made in Mumbai, and when he found out I was a lawyer kept telling me most of the big money was off the books and in cash in India (some truth to that, of course) and an American lawyer could make a killing helping people turn their "black" money into "white" money. Which was pretty hilarious considering I was there for work doing anti-corruption/anti-bribery work. Also managed to steer him away from starting a bar fight when he started posturing to some guys who were chatting up his girlfriend.

Also got to experience first-hand in Shanghai an attempt to work the "tea festival" scam -- a local variant on the coffee house or bar scam that gets run in various countries. My girlfriend is of the opinion that I'm to willing to be chatted up by random people. :) But I always find it fascinating to see how attempted scams play out.

well, tbh I think I'd rather be a junior consultant than the world's foremost expert on the effects of blue balls on one's Internet poasting habits [IMG]

I think you might have done him a favor in the long run if you let him get his ass kicked

That's a fair point, although I'm not sure my girlfriend would have seen that as a fun ending to the night. I'm sure he'll have other opportunities to learn those lessons.

Going to pick up my beloved Panerai today after having it tuned up and being without it for the past 2 months. I like my Timex Ironman as well, but I can't wait to put a real watch back on.

Holy cow. I'm handing off my responsibilities, at first it seemed like the list would be pretty short, but it has been non-stop - the meetings, the documentation, the transfer of files and processes. In retrospect, I'm a bit surprised at all the issues that have come up through the years that I've been the first (and only) to deal with. Glad I've kept good records.

Got a new Galaxy S3 phone. Slickest piece of consumer tech I've ever bought.

I've had one for a few months now. Really great piece of tech. Good battery life, and i've got mine hooked up to my car bluetooth all day, which I assumed would be a drain. Only issue I've ever had is that maybe once a week or so it will have turned off for no reason.

As an AAPL shareholder, I can objectively testify that the iPhone 5 is a superior device.

I urge you to return your Samsung and contribute to Apple's profits by purchasing their superior product.

Isn't the S4 coming out in like a month?

I'm waiting for the S4 mini (if such a thing ever exists)...My original galaxy S is almost the perfect size (especially if it were as thin as the S3 or S4)
