So you are saying professors have to be researching in order to be called a professor? How about phd's that happen to enjoy teaching other's research?

I'm saying that using the title "professor" for someone holding a master's degree, which is what most if them have, and teaching in a non-tenure-track position at a community college without doing research is a pretty big stretch.

Could one argue that it's technically correct? I suppose, but their job isn't much different than that of most of the PhD candidates I know, and no one calls them "professor."

This guy: http://home.uchicago.edu/arsx/ was one of the most popular instructors at my school. He publishes real work, collaborates and consults with other big names, serves on the editorial board of a journal, and acts as a referee for several big named journals. He has also taught at both Princeton and William & Mary and has been doing all of this since the 70s.

But he has a MA and not a PhD so he is deemed "Senior Lecturer"--that's just the way it is.

Quality of student and quality of "professor" often go hand in hand.

No, it was a bag of pretzels that are covered in yogurt. Very tasty, in a pseudo-healthy sort of way. Unlike, say, a bag of dirty sanchez.

My dog came from a breeder, and I couldn't be happier with him. However, I had several people criticize me for doing so. Screw them.
