I often make the mistake of eating an excellent bagel/croissant really early in the morning (around 5am) then think to myself: "hmm... that was wicked awesome.... maybe I should eat another one!" -since is so early in the morning.

then I get that carbo loaded (and buttery fat if its a croissant) puke-y feeling from over doing it all the way through to lunch.

So, the Houston marathon has been popular enough to warrant a lottery drawing. This year, they have reserved guaranteed spots for anyone who ran a qualifying time in the past year, and I have run a q time. Do I go half-marathon or full?

That's pretty much how I feel when I eat anything.

ThinkThin Creamy Peanut Butter bars. Low glycemic index. Gluten Free. Delicious. A little burst of energy, which I probably won't use.

I just had a conversation that, should the possibilities discussed come to fruition, could have an enormous positive impact on my long-term career goals.

Perhaps you failed them unfairly. Maybe they were just going meta.

Unless you feel particularly dedicated to do another marathon, I'd do a half. Seems like you're still recovering from several injuries and general life fatigue.

I've never taught at a university where plagiarism gets students expelled. IME, the bar for expulsion in practice is very, very high. (I know of students who have assaulted professors and gotten suspended for a semester!)

I can only provide anecdata here, but my experience is actually not that plagiarism is on the rise. Five or six years ago was the high water mark; I'd have to deal with multiple cases of plagiarism every semester. I haven't had to deal with that many over the last couple of years. This semester was really unusual in that regard.

TBH, I find the students on the journalism track to be the most conscientious of the Mass Communication majors. That probably says more about the other students than it does about the journalism students, though. Teaching that class always makes me grateful for our majors in philosophy!

We are subject to very stringent privacy laws, so I can't post actual e-mail messages, even with names changed. But I can give you a compressed view of what they all look like.

Student: I noticed that I received an F? Was their some kind of problem? Did u not recieve my paper? Dont u remember when I turned it in?
Me: I did receive "your" paper. The problem was that you plagiarized. (Cite part of syllabus where punishment for that is explained.)
Student: I think their might of been some passages that I just forgot to site because I had so much to do in finals week and I was so busy but I didnt mean to cheat. It was an oversite.
Me: You copied many pages of text verbatim. (Describe which pages exactly were plagiarized.)
There's usually no response to that one.

Also, they typically do not plagiarize from actual books or journal articles. That would require work. They just do a google search, which typically takes them either to wikipedia or the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. Their laziness actually makes my life a lot easier.

1960's Sears was awesome. Today, not so much.

He should move to NYC. He'd love it here. I'd be at his house every day. We could have pillow fights and eat pints of ice cream together.
