wait, this is a very important quesion. what causes the nasty yellow armpit discoloration you see on gross peoples shirts, sweat or anti perspirant chemicals? this is a hugely important question.

pics of new clothes or old?

It is the antiperspirant chemicals then get into the fabric. When heat touches them they turn that yellow color. All things will yellow with sweat, but not any where near what those antiperspirant chemicals do. I use Crystal spray deodorant now. It made from Alum, some kind of salt that is natural and doesn't cause the yellowing. You have to use a lot for it to work, and it will not stop you from sweating, but I find that it is worthwhile.

I ran a 5k yesterday in Washington Heights with a bunch of friends and had a great time at an after race party of my friends apartment who lived in the area.

The party had this huge brunch layout (and a lot of beer) and we watched the Celtics Knicks game the whole time.

I was happy to be the only Celtic fan in the whole room of about 20 knicks bandwagoners... the whole room collectively jumped on and off the Jeremy Lin bandwagon a thousand times during the game.

interesting. i am undergoing further inverstigation in this matter. what if you wore no anti perspirant or deoderant at all? would the sweat discolor the shirt on its own?

Yes, think about "ring around the collar". This can be safely removed though through proper washing. Antiperspirant stains, much more difficult.

the alum is actually a basic ingredient in most deodorants. they used to sell the whole alum rock that you'd rub directly onto your armpit. its both an antiperspirant and deodorant, but there is a big BUT - you have to reapply it after a 2nd/succeeding sweat because that shit is very effective but gives up. so the alum products aren't that great during the summer months (where you're constantly re-sweating).

here's a side tip with alum products: its a great way to numb canker sores. you know when you get those bad ones that are so bad it affects your eating? just rub some alum powder/rock/solution onto it. it'll sting like a bitch for 2 seconds and then effectively numb it for the next hour so you can eat.

I have the bar one too. I hate it, you really need to rub it on for a long time. It isn't an antiperspirant though, just deodorant. I do however rub it on my taint spot for good measure.

I switched to straight deodorant years (decades) ago and have no residue on my shirts, at all, ever. Even ones I've had for 15+ years (though, they are a bit ratty). Hardly sweat at all.
