Can't you take on-line classes? I took 15 hours of on-line classes while the Mrs. was wrapping up her law school. Not much fun, though, as the only time I had to devote to studies were the hours between putting the son to bed and greeting the Mrs upon her arrival at home after her classes, and the occasional early Sat/Sun.

that said, your state likely restricts the amount of on-line hours that can be applied towards the educational requirement, but still - it's an option. I couldn't find anything on the MD site about restricting it, so it may be wide-open or not even considered. But still, better to ask the question than just sit out a semester.

thanks for your advise t bone, and for looking into it.

i have taken a bunch of online classes. they were fine at the intro level, but once i got to the intermediate/advanced accounting classes i felt it wasnt really possible. of the 18 hours or so i am awake during the day my work takes up 12 hours. that leaves only 6 hours. 2 hours to eat, dress, shower and pray, down to 4. 1 hour of family time, down to 3. 1 hour of j00 studies, down to 2.

besides the fact that i need some personal time to unwind or i will go postal, it wasnt enough time to devote to really take the class, properly study/review and take tests. i did well in the upper level online class, but i walked away feeling i had no idea what the hell i just learned, and considering i hope to go into the field i felt i was doing myself a disservice. and now that work has gotten more time consuming, i have added another hour of work each day and have 0 days off, i just felt i couldnt do it. :( i am a wimp.

i am now reminded how bad my work situation is. i really hope one of the other things i am looking into pans out.

This has probably been discussed, but what made you settle on accounting? Just curious.

I personally love accounting. I find it interesting. I probably know the most about accounting at my company who is not an accountant for my company. Probably not really, but I go out of my way to learn a lot about it. It is a bit esoteric in my industry as well.

    sounds lovely.

actually the reason i chose accounting is that i have always enjoyed playing with numbers. not fancy math like advanced calculus or fluid dynamics, but numbers, and being creative with them. i also want a job where i can sit down, be presented with work to do, and be left alone for the most part. i think accounting will provide me with that. i have enjoyed the classes i have taken so far, so i am optimistic about it.

Stitchy, I'm sure that Hashem will understand you slightly cutting back on your studies to further yourself as a man. Knock out a few Mazel Mazel's when you wake up and then get on with your day. You can fit in an hour of studying/classes a day.

Do yourself a huge favor, when you are interviewing for an accounting job it would be wise NOT to mention that you like to be "creative" with numbers. ;)

During a presentation one day I used the term "manipulated" to describe the reformatting of some budget data and the assistant controller's head almost exploded.
