So this is happening.
Are you at all worried about heat coming off of the fireplace affecting your TV? Currently I have my TV hung over my dormant fireplace. Someday I would like to have the fireplace fixed and a gas log installed, but am concerned about what it might to do the TV.
That's my boy!

I can smell the butter in that pain au chocolat...
Yeah, everything is novelty.
Surround sound is really fun when you're watching a blockbuster action movie and want to turn down all the lights and immerse yourself in that experience. But for me, realistically, with a child and a house to take care of and a job and an otherwise busy calendar and not much interest in movies to begin with, that would happen maybe, maybe once a year for me. In the meantime I'd have all these speakers to deal with and wiring headaches etc etc. I'm more interested in having a liveable family room than a home theater that also happens to be somewhere we congregate.
Some people are into that, and that's great. But just not me. It's all about your specific priorities.
As for the heat/plasma issue - it's a concern, yes, but I know lots of people who have done it without any issues. I won't be lighting roaring fires in this fireplace, usually will probably just burn Duraflames for the look, and they don't burn too hot. I'll just keep an eye on it and be careful.
All makes sense. I tend to watch more dramas and such. 7.1 channels is a bit overkill for that stuff. A good quality stereo system is great for what I watch.
I have a plasma TV and I think it looks much better than LCD, but LCD uses less energy, which is a plus. My parents just got an LED TV, which looks really nice.
I think Fran's head just exploded
pffft! As if that is important when it comes to HT!
