I'm sorry, it's actually a 4" paring knife; I just measured it. It fits perfectly in my hands for use with vegetables and fruits.

I was wrong. They are great. I do think they are designed for looks, and overpriced, and I think SField agrees. I also admit they are great knives. They are probably most for people like mgm, who want the best, have the money but not any particular skill with knives. He should have waited, because he is either going to get little out of them or ruin them because he hasn't an idea of how to care for knives (the idea that you can't get a shun sharp enough and that is the problem with your knives is laughable, and what I hase this on) but I hope I am wrong and he uses them well. The idea of a 4-4.5" paring knife is silly in the extreme.

I plan on getting some Japanese knives soon, but I plan to get several pieces (a square-bladed vegetable knife, a yanagi, and a deba - then some European knives for other purposes) for what mgm just paid for that gyutou. I also plan to get them sharpened by an expert regularly.

This Tadamori guy's knives look pretty good actually, the dimpling on the blade is obviously cool looking, but some of them have cowhorn handles and they have the blacked collars, they're really aesthetically pleasing.

some (2 years of studying/8 years of very lazy practical learning?), and then the person sitting half a foot away from me right now does the rest.
