An avocado only costs $5 a pop here, so I have it in the budget to overnight some tomatillos in.
Only? Forgive me if you've already explained this, but why is it exactly that produce is so expensive in Korea?

haha. gonna be in America in about 2 months from now, going to eat well, but more excited about cooking well for my mother. Given what I am used to paying for ingredients, there are no holds barred at this point. [IMG]

has anyone ever tried avocados and (canned) sardines? it's an old adria combination and it works great.

If I liked sardines, I'd probably be on board with that. I really like Comte cheese grilled on an avocado half.

Haven't tried the combination, personally, but I remember seeing an episode of Good Eats where Alton Brown explains how he used them to aid in his weight loss efforts. http://www.seriouseats.com/2010/01/a...wich-diet.html

In the Kramer book, he talks about poaching half an avocado, putting a poached egg in the hole, and serving with bernaise. Sounds delicious.

OK, potentially dumb question, but what happens to an avocado when you poach it?

It's just to warm it through. Technically not poaching.
