What do I have to say to get Indian food that’s actually spicy? They put “extra hot plus” on the ticket and it was about what I’d call “hot.”

I just have to become a regular somewhere until they dial it in.

Are you going to Morrisville for Indian?

I once had some vindaloo in Minneapolis, a place where people think black pepper is spicy, that was incredibly spicy. My tolerance is much lower after living there though.

Haven’t tried anything in Morrisville, just Raleigh and Cary. I am in New Bern today though.

Vindaloo is supposed to be spicy. That’s what got me hooked on Indian in the first place. But I never get it spicy enough.

the issue is that Indian cooks know that Americans don't really mean spicy/don't know what they're getting themselves into when they ask for truly spicy. they've probably wasted countless dishes in this way until they eventually decide to dumb it down. i agree - you're going to have to become a regular or find some way to convince them that yeah, you can handle it.

not surprisingly, whenever my business travels take me to India i have the opposite problem - there seems to be no way to get something mild no matter how hard you try

Morrsiville is where I would go as that is where 90% of the Indian population lives.

The Triangle is segregated as hell. Goddam, I hate Raleigh and especially Cary.

A triangle is just a lonely version of a pyramid.

If I could deal with a 30-45 minute commute I’d probably live in Durham. I’m an aging hipster at heart.

I don't hate them; 20-30 years of non-Southerners moving into the Raleigh area has made it measurably better. Things were a lot shittier when it was just rednecks.

You’re welcome.
