One of my mom's good friends looks to be on the brink of losing her long battle with cancer. She's battled cancer on and off longer than I've known her (since I was in high school), but she's remained one of the most positive people I've ever met.

It's said you need to have the right mindset to have a shot at beating an illness like cancer. In the end, her wonderful outlook won't be enough to beat it, but she's done more living in that time than some "healthy" people will do in their entire lives. I've never heard one remark of self-pity from her.

To be around someone who knows they're dying, yet loves every moment of life they have left, is inspiring. I can't say whether I'd be so optimistic in her position, but it's at least help me put things in perspective. We tend to dwell too much on the inconsequential things. There's something to learn from people like her.

sorry to hear that.

my mother in law is about to be in that position. she has refused to go to a doctor let alone entertain the thought of going through chemo or therapy... and from what little I know of her condition, I asked my oncologist sibling and she expects her to not make it past the year.

Got the appraisal back on the house I am buying. ******* FHA says I have to repaint the house to get a loan. WTF, so now I either have to get them to do it (which they wont), or pay for it to be painted (without a guarantee of the thing closing) We were going to have the house painted, but not for a couple of years.

Its because its an FHA loan, they get a hard on over lead paint, and the assumption is that on a house of this age (80 years) there might be LBP. So any flaking paint is considered a hazard to be flagged. I am going to see if we can roll the dice and just have the paint tested instead of replaced, because its going to be a wicked expensive job (2.5 storeys, lots of windows).

Ah, now it makes sense. Yeah, scraping, clean up, etc? Will be expensive.

There's a comment or "FTFY" in there somewhere.

The only comment is "I need a frigging job."

I feel like 80% of "entry-level jobs" require 2+ years of prior experience. What the ****?
