Got to work yesterday and pull my MacBook out to type a personal e-mail.

Dead center in the middle of my screen, I see what appears to be a spec of dirt/a smudge. This is the size of 2 pinpoints clumped together.

I try to wipe/scratch/etc it off. Nope, it's a very small scratch. Something must have gotten on my keyboard and when I closed my computer, it got scratched.

If it was in a corner, I probably would overlook. But it is dead center and getting me all jibbeldy!

Should I replace the screen for such a small scratch? I know I will because it will drive me loco. MacBook Air is just over a year old. Purchased last April.
Sounds like this is a good excuse to get rid of the Mac all together and buy a real computer.

Yes you should replace the screen, it will drive you crazy

Must be pretty distracting to watch Pronhub with a scratch right in the middle of the screen

Hey @greekgeek - It looks like one of your neighbors had their Ring camera up and running the other day!
Everything was under control. It was fine.

Perfect even.

So good news/bad news from the neighbor's homespun fireworks....

Good news was that when a firework went sideways, it didn't blast any observers.

Bad news is that it caught another lawn on fire in 2 spots, and while putting those out a fire started engulfing a bush in yet another neighbors yard. Chaos then ensued for a few minutes.

Haven't followed up with a damage report but it looked pretty minimal as it was put out quickly.

Can't wait to see it again next year, because 'Merica!!

Replace it...
You can get a fairly fat trade in on it.
I did something similar when the M1 chip came out.

So replace the entire computer vs just the screen?

I have the M1 chip, but I could upgrade to a Pro.....

I remember a few years ago, maybe sophomore year of college, I was at my parents house. They had a back deck with the floor cut out to access and store the hose. You lifted up a cover to access the storage area. The cover was maybe 2x2 with a little box thing on the bottom so it wouldn't move around (not sure what you call it but it was basically a T shape.

So we are setting off fireworks. I tell my dad to put the longer side on the ground. Instead, he put's the narrower, dangling part on the ground so it is top heavy.

It works for a few minutes until, you know, a firework goes sideways. It hits my mom in the chest where it falls down her blouse. I tell her to stop drop and roll because my elementary school education paid off. Instead, she starts puffing her shirt leading to a bigger fire (which in fairness, I can only imagine how painful it was so I don't really blame her).

There's not many times where as I've gotten older and reflected on instances I thought I was smarter than my parents and come to the conclusion that--yes, I was smarter than them (it turns out having experience, growth, insight, and what not is more valuable than youthful brashness). However, that night is one of those times.

Yeah, on the Apple site there's a link for trade in. They ask you for the serial #, questions about condition etc.
Pretty painless, and it's fairly generous.

I just did that. $400? Not sure if I am gonna go that route.

I may just change the screen unless they make me a better offer in store.

This can't be. I'm told Apple products just work.

I did a focus group last week on pretzels(true story). The compensation is $150. My homegurl just reminded me that I should just replace the screen as the money isn't coming out of my pocket.
