Also, I've complained before, but Amazon seems to have used covid as an excuse to gut amazon prime. At the start of covid they said they were going to prioritize essential items...and slowly all mention of 2-day shipping has disappeared.

In Chicago, where they had warehouses, I'd frequently get stuff in 1 day (sometimes even same day) delivered by amazon workers. So it was all fine.

But out here, my standard "Prime" shipping seems to be 1 week. Here's a random search for "usb cable":

Wtf am I paying for? I'd rather not shop at Walmart, but they will do free shipping on a ton of items, many with actual 2 day delivery.

Shoprunner is still around too (get it free from Amex) and they do free 2-day shipping from their stores.

I'm extra pissed because when I made the decision to move out here, still being able to get stuff in 2 days was a selling point--I may have limited local retail, but who cares when you can get everything 2 days later.

And its not like this is covid-related handling delays. They are straight up putting items on the slow boat and shipping standard UPS-ground. Even if they get it out of the warehouse day of order, unlikely to get it in 2 days.

Why would you rather shop at Amazon than Walmart?

Walmart's website sucks and is littered with a bunch of 3rd party crap in a way that is much less useful/intuitive than 3rd party stuff on Amazon.

Also walmart sells a bunch of junk products (I mean, so does amazon, but walmart actively seeks out junk and lower spec versions of things for their retail stores whereas I actually have had pretty good luck with AmazonBasics-type stuff).

Finally, amazon reviews can be fake...but walmart reviews are written by walmart shoppers.

I went to my local Walmart for the first time this weekend. Had to return a cooler I bought online--Lifetime 55qt; awesome cooler, incredible value, just too big for my needs (and trunk).

Man...I'm used to walmarts having a different crowd, but I also only usually go into walmarts when I am in places where there is nothing else around so I figured a lot of it was location driven.

This one is in the same retail big-box sprawl as every other store...target, costco, lowes, home depot, best buy, homegoods, REI, you name it.

But boy oh boy did it still have its own distinct clientele. In fact it was probably even MORE walmarty because who chooses walmart when all of the other stores are on the same block?

Heh, I ordered something from Walmart online a couple weeks ago. It shipped and was lost for like a week. I message online and Walmart refunds me since its like 7 business days past when it said it would deliver. So I'm a little mad and go and purchase it on Amazon (friday night). The Walmart item shows up Saturday morning. Damn, so I try to cancel Amazon. It says its too far along. Whatever. Noon today I get notice that it shipped. What? Its 2 days (albeit weekend) later. Just don't ship it. I'm just going to return the f ing thing you idiots. Stupid Amazon.

Although now I need to buy a new cooler and I'm stuck.

Something like a RTIC (or yeti) 45qt is closer to where I want to be, but I can't bring myself to pay more than double what the Lifetime cost for an equally good but LARGER cooler (and with much better latches IMHO).

I need it to be certified bear-resistant, hard sided, 35-45qt, and with the same level of long-term ice retention.

Rtic is ******* great. I ordered 2 lids from them last Friday morning and had a shipment notification within the hour. Regular shipping and I received them on Sunday. They ship from Houston, so it's only a few hundred miles, but they are great

I have an Rtic that is bucket glass sized, and it is specifically for Manhattans.
It keeps them so perfectly freezing cold.

Ice? Pfff, I've had one of these for like 8 years. Doubles as an extra freezer for when a quarter cow comes our way.

It aint cheap, but man its awesome.

My portly friend once observed he liked going to Walmart because it made him look and feel thinner.
