I like this suggestion, but do deck screws come in a variety of sizes? Bigger isn't always better. At least that's what I say to comfort myself...
I am glad you can comfort yourself with that misnomer

As for the screws, I think they come in 2.5, 3 and 4 in Lengths. they aren't that large of a screw "girth" wise either, but they are strong. If you need it shorter sticking out of the wall, just drive it in deeper baby. I use these types of screws for just about everything at the house

It's not necessarily the length that's the issue. The problem I have in this specific situation is that the mounting hardware has a very small opening and I couldn't use larger screws because the head wouldn't fit in the hole.

Yes, I know exactly how that sounds.

Have you considered changing mounting hardware? Can we get a pic?

For heavy loads I usually use a couple of these https://www.lowes.com/pd/E-Z-Ancor-...andard-Drywall-Anchor-Screws-Included/1099153

Alternatively, I am glad to drop by this week and help out :)

It's a double panel floating frame, like this

The barrels around the perimeter screw directly into the wall, then the floating panels are screwed into the barrels. The hardware looks like this:

There are a total of eight barrels per frame and I had to hang two frames. Only one of the sixteen was a problem to mount. I suspect I had the bad luck to hit a knot in the stud, since drilling the pilot hole was easy, but both screws snapped under torque.

And yes, the obvious answer would be to use something less stupid for a frame, but that wouldn't be pretty enough. I don't ask questions, I just do what my wife tells me to do.

Ooh Boy. This one is a bit more difficult. . Less stupid frame is a good choice, but so is obeying the mistress.

So the deckscrews will almost certainly not work for that. BUT the other option I showed you MIGHT.. here is what those screws look like. The head is just about 8mm. Measure your head baby and see if it fits.

Seriously though, the frame looks great. I don't envy you hanging it though

AOC is naïve and idealistic. MGT is a racist that's mentally unbalanced.

More or less agree but AOC is not one to let facts get in the way of her roll.

Wouldn't stainless steel screws be more predictable?

They are expensive as hell. A $7 box of carbon steel screws cost $30 in ss

I miss the old SF, and i know i say this all the time, but i really do. i miss the diversity of opinions. im basically conservative at this time. wtf
That's far from just a SF problem.

Not a big deal for someone who might use 50 screws in a lifetime. (I buy the "pro" star screws at HD/Lowes, though.)

Or you could just take the lazy contractor route and use drywall screws for everything.
