A cat ran under my truck tonight. I killed it immediately. I moved it to the side of the road with a shovel. No other way to get rid of it. It was black like our Jimmy cat. I pulled into the driveway to see Jimmy dart from the garage.

So its no secret I’ve been testing the job market and recently got an interview with a fairly reputable company. It would probably be a step down in title but I’m more than willing to take it on to not having to work 14 hour days anymore for a **** company.

So I get the email for the interview and its 4 hours long with 6 different people? Holy crap. I mean, this isnt VP level **** here. Am I interested? Yes, but there are tradeoffs that I am still weighing. Anyway, off to make up an excuse to miss half a day on Monday.

That's about normal for second rounds even for the Manager/Director level. It is also tough to compare levels depending on companies as a VP at Amazon could run another company and the Director levels there are 3-4 deep and you could manage a few hundred people there.

I had a short stint at a bank early in my career and I was an AVP by title but just called myself a Risk Analyst so it didn't confuse non-bank people as those titles make no sense.

Bro, if the interview is like this, you need to consider what daily oversight is going to be like.

This is super common in tech. It is a bit annoying because most people will ask you the same questions because they haven't had a time to talk. HR seems to not like big 10:1 type interviews.

Just say you're sick or have a doctor's appointment and go for it. Good luck.

I'm likewise miserable in my current gig. Got a screener interview on Monday for a fantastic opportunity, but I'm so stressed and worn out its going to be tough to muster the fake enthusiasm it needs.

The HR screener won't care that much. Plus, everyone is so desperate it won't matter.

Lol I guess I have to respect a company that makes quadruple sure they are not hiring an edina.

We generally have 4-5 interviews for two reasons:
1. It gives all the various stakeholders some sense of buy in. On our team you're going to work with a lot of different teams, so having someone from the adjacent teams makes them feel like they have a say. It generally leads to a better starting relationship.

2. Sometimes people have a really good/bad interview, so it let's us normalize a bit. Plus it helps increase diversity of thought to get cross-functional member feedback.
