I just endured a 40 minute long 300 email "Don't click reply all!!!!!!" debacle. Desk jockies feel my pain.

I had one where someone un-minimized the distribution list which caused each email to now be 10s of MB because there were 100k+ email addresses in the to line. Good times.

I got that email, too. I actually never assumed they were going to brick the speakers per se (despite the stupidly written initial announcement), but that they weren't going to make the effort to fix the problem of older gen speakers not being compatible with some sources, nor give free or steeply discounted new gen speakers to folks with the older ones.

Why would people expect free or deeply discounted speakers?

I don't even know if it is planned obsolescence. The fact of the matter is that maintaining and supporting 10 year old products is expensive. It also can limit new development to make everything backwards compatible. Yes, it sucks, but I don't get the backlash this has caused.
