is there a way in gmail to block like all campaign/scam PAC emails? Some axhole from Arizona who apparently misspelled her email address signed up for one campaign's mailing list (fork you Mark Kelly) and now I'm getting spammed with multiple donation requests per day from campaigns and assorted PACs all over the US. I feel like I just need to burn my email address and start over but so far all it's done is make me even more resolute to never donate a single red penny to any political campaign or PAC or other data gobbling pox on our democracy.

I am at my parents’ house this weekend, so I’m being subjected the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Bewilderingly terrible. So many non-French people, daylight pyro effects, a downpour, awful concept, just unbelievably bad.

Probably cold comfort but they probably would’ve gotten you anyway, along with every other active email address in the country, regardless of what that other person did.

Actually hitting the unsubscribe button works decently…I think it’s just that in this season there’s so many PACs that it will take forever to unsubscribe from them all

I've literally never received any other political spam until this lady signed up for one. So now all of these data sharing political bastards are sending me emails like "hey Karen, our democracy is at risk but if you donate now, Phil Dunfey can beat Josh Hawley (paid for by missourians against fist pumping fascists)."

You can mark them all spam without having to open them. Maybe that would help?

I use Comcast and it has a "block this sender" then I just send it to junk. I don't use unsubscribe because some phishing sites use the button to confirm that it is an active address.

I get one occasionally from some local Vietnamese politician even though I've marked it spam.
And Joe used to super spam me.
My fault, as I sent him $5 once.
It was feeding a stray cat...

Somehow they still get through because each one is from a different stupid sham PAC or campaign. What's crazy is that I forward all my mail from this particular gmail account to my main gmail account and they do mostly get blocked by the main gmail account for whatever reason.

I think the problem with politicians is that they exempted themselves from the CAN-SPAM Act so they can do whatever they want. They eventually do remove me from their email blasts but then they share my email with other random campaigns when they trade mailing lists. I would gladly support the first politician that promises to do something about it (I mean support with my sh&t posts - ain't giving them money).

Exactly. It's like sending a bat signal to every campaign that you're a mark.

I'm all for the opensecrets disclosure but it's also one of the reasons I would never donate to any political campaign. It's like walking around begging to be annoyed by panhandlers.

PACs will at least respect the unsubscribe.

Sometimes Gmail also identifies how to unsubscribe and gives you a link in the header to click.

Power was out until just before dinner time but by then we decided to take the kids out to a coney island place (generic diner for you non-Michiganders). Other than my kids, my wife and I were probably the youngest people in there by at least 30 years. While walking back to the cashier to pay I saw some guy eating a big plate of beef stroganoff. I’ve got nothing against beef stroganoff but that would probably be among the very bottom of the list of things I would ever order at a diner.

Beef stroganoff can be delicious but does it ever actually look appetizing?

Plus, it's very saucy.
And you just know there's old skanky tubs of that sauce in their walk-in.
No thank you.

But it’s like the hydra. You unsubscribing doesn’t stop them from selling / swapping your name with 5 other pacs/campaigns. It’s never-ending.

Just send cease and desist letters.
