I guess it's different in healthcare. About six weeks ago I had a company reach out and within 90 minutes I had talked to the RVP and divisional president. This was on a Friday afternoon and Saturday morning they sent me an offer letter. I declined for several reasons but my experience was similar at MegaCorp and then this place I just chatted with the general partner twice and was offered the job at the end of the second conversation.

I still find the process onerous.

For my current job it was a 6 week process culminating in a presentation to a panel.

During said preso I made a joke about their network running slow because someone in the office is downloading p o r n.

Got great reviews from everyone in the room, until we got to the VP of Sales. He clears his throat and says "I probably wouldn't have mentioned p o r n."

Still got the job.

I am not sure at what point the actual interview process started, but it was more than 7 monhts from the time I first got the call from the recruiter to the day I started my current job. I think it is also dependent on the size of the company, my current is ~300b.

New gig had 3 interviews total. Screen with peer, hiring manager, and business partner. They were spread out over a period of weeks culminating in an offer. It is a megacorp. Hiring manager has worked closely with a friend I vacation with so I think I had this in the bag for interview 1.

I am not a fan of the whole process but megacorps do have some perks and since it is the Summer of Resignation, increases can be quite nice.

Last gig...2 interviews:

-First was with a group of 3. Towards the end, I was asked if I am a Mets or Yankee fan(NYC global headquarters...NYC location.)

As I was being walked out, one of the interviewers said, "We are definitely going to have you back."

-2nd was with a group of 4. Nothing remarkable stands out.

I was offered the role a day or so after. It was in December so I told the firm that I was joining that I needed 3 weeks to finish up some projects that I had going at the current job. No problem.

I had no projects to finish up!

I gave the current job 2 weeks notice(they offered more $) and lounged for a week and started on Jan 2.

Yeah thanks all. Chatted with my FIL (Hey I get to go watch the Ryder Cup for free 😎) and he is just about to retire and was asking me about the job search. I think companies are going one of two ways... first being like many of you have described. Quick, thorough and snatching people up asap. Second being like the ones who I am somehow stuck with. Don't have a process, have to get everything cleared up after the fact, dont have time to do a thorough job/due diligence. My FIL said its that way at the company he is retiring from and he can't fathom how *if* things return to normal how the company will survive.

So far the process was
  • Phone screen
  • Interview with 5 people
  • Interview with 2 more people 1 week later
  • THEN, asked for references
  • Heard from my references that each had a 15 minute meeting with a few people
  • Interview with 2 more people
Like I said, process has been going on for 6 weeks. :brick:

Had a phone screen with another company today. Thought I was doing well, everything was matching up... as we get to the end of the 30 minutes she goes "Well, we have an internal candidate that we are pursuing." F off.
