Every time I have to drive in rush hour, I’m grateful I have a job where I don’t have to do it every day.

Don't you love in Raleigh? I did a lot of driving to various locations throughout the triangle during rush hour from research reusable park, and nothing was ever terrible. Maybe if you had to go to downtown Raleigh, but I wasn't looking there.

Most of Minneapolis/St Paul was worse than the triangle, and I'm sure the Boston, Chicago, LA folks would laugh at that even.

I work downtown. I also have a low tolerance for traffic and the way people become assholes when driving in it.

Plus, when you live ~20 minutes from work, 10-15 minutes added to the trip feels a lot worse than it actually is.

I lived in NJ for a while and played hockey in the mornings. I had to take the same route I’d take to Manhattan. If I wasn’t on the Parkway before 6:30, it was complete hell. It amazed me how quickly it went from smooth sailing to a parking lot.

I also have a low tolerance for traffic, so I feel your pain.

My 11 second commute is the best decision I've made in years.

My commute is a short bike ride (or slightly longer walk) split by a 20-minute ferry ride, which often has moments of astounding beauty - as with two winters ago, when we watched Snowy Owls hunting behind the boat as we passed. It can make going home like leaving the ordinary world behind.

I took a ferry from Sydney Harbor to Manly Beach a few months back. It would be amazing to have that as my daily commute.

I don’t wish ill on many people, but if you “oversleep” by two hours for an afternoon hospital shift on Thanksgiving, I hope you rot in hell. Or at the very least lose your job.
