I once marked a lab report with "u" and "r" used as words. He had the right answer, but I gave him 0 on the question anyway. He challenged me, and I explained that he was expected to answer in English. If he took it to the prof, he probably got the mark, but come on!

I remember proofreading a few friends' papers in college. The amount of abysmal writing was stunning. And sometimes these were people in honors history or poli sci classes.

Since I am a professor, of course I have a stapler in my office, and with that comes a staple remover. From time to time I get a little worried because what if I'm not paying attention to what I am doing and I absentmindedly use the staple remover to pull out one of my teeth? There is no reason on God's earth that that thought should ever occur to me, and yet it does.

Other Internet forums that I enjoy, such as Uniwatch (discussion of sports uniforms) and KISSFaq (discussion of KISS) have featured poor quality conversation as of late, to where I've almost been tempted to stop reading (many dumb opinions expressed). I do enjoy Styleforum website, though, no two ways about that (wish King Solomon would post more though).
