1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

i'm amazed by the amount of fires that i have seen in NYC. And not little things, but whole apartments. Or Churches (that was a big one). The FDNY is always on the move too, though i realize that half the time it's somebody bitching about their neighbor's alarm's dead batteries.

on the flip side, i'm positive that if I called in an actual fire, I'd have two trucks at my place within 60 seconds. Two trucks and one of those SUV-type things. And then another full unit within 120 seconds.

Even with the additional hassle of getting access, the CBC coverage, analysis and webcast options are totally worth it. And it all just makes NBC look even shittier than I realized. NBC has had the Olympic rights for so long, and done the same sub par work for so long, that seeing the Games done well is a revelation.

I agree and have been guilty of this in the past. Apparently, despite some lovely vocal country stylings, David Allen Coe's "The House next Door to Me" is not acceptable at most weddings.

Yeah, both fires in my building the fire fighting guys were there in like 30 seconds. They were all drunk, of course, but that is commitment.

Well, we're 5th in the medal count with 7. It's safe to assume that we should probably have 10 or so by now since we usually own the snowboarding events.

I say this every Olympics for the last 20 years: the USA never loses at the Olympics.

    1) Other team/individual "played way over their heads."
    2) US team/individual "played way below their potential."
    3) The officials caused the US to lose.

My lack of vacation days and the fact that my package has taken over 4 hours to get from the post office to my office, which is exactly a quarter of a mile.

    MIRACLE ON ICE!

Btw, have a video link for the disputed goal? Was the puck in motion prior to the whistle and would have crossed the line?

i wasn't born until years after Miracle.

the puck was in motion prior to the whistle but it was like moving under the goalie, then it came loose (to one side), and the whistle blew right before it crossed and the players stopped playing but the puck trickled in. if there's a rule that i don't know about that is olympics specific, then fine, but i don't know of the rule. last i knew, a dead play is a dead play. I'd concede that it was a quick whistle, which happens from time to time, but never have I see a "whoops, my bad on that, we'll count it anyways".

I don't know the correct ruling either, but for what it's worth, it looks like (1) the puck was moving when the whistle blew; but (2) the goalie accidentally kicked the puck toward the goal line after the whistle blew.
