Oh how I've missed you, my sweet little prince!

Atlanta has the worst drivers in that the unceasing incompetence of them is truly astounding.

That said, I can't PP for shit.

I'm sure she can beat the ailment.

Right after college I stopped liking music. Then in the past year or so I've been diving in to it again. Dunno what that means.

    As for me--my sister--jk.

So I have a few...quirks, I guess...about me that I actually hate but they've come up again lately. First is that a friend of mine who was really cute and I really liked her when she lived here, she liked me but I'm an idiot and never made a move. Well she moved away a few years ago and then I saw she just got engaged and was upset about that which I know is irrational. And it wasn't like heartbroken or anything it was just....upset.

Last night a couple of my friends went out to a Young Republicans event at a bar down the road from me and it is apparently a fantastic place to meet/hookup with chicks. Now I have to wait a whole month to try my luck. :fu:

And most importantly... so much for me quitting SF (This should piss everyone off).

Maybe that's the problem...it gets harder to find. When you are young (particularily high school and college), you spend a lot of time with other people who are from a pretty narrow demographic, which happens to be your demographic. Whether you are going to parties or just hanging out in somebody's room, there's plenty of new stuff to be found. You chose to hang out with those people so your tastes probably align and you are a demographic that is targeted heavily by people trying to promote music.

When you get older, now you spend your days with coworkers. You aren't hanging out with your coworkers because of their killer record collection, you are hanging out with them because they happen to work at the same place as you--they might even work on completely different stuff and just happen to sit near you. Similarly, your wife had a lot of things to introduce you to when she was your girlfriend, but now your record collections are merged and there's nothing new there. Natalie Portman isn't going to put some headphones on your head and say "this song will change your life"...so maybe you have to actively search to find things.

Don't forget that when you're young you have a very limited frame of reference unless you're from the UMC or old money. So when you're 18 why is a band THE BEST OMFG BAND IN THE HISTORY OF BANDS? Because you have so little to compare it with. As you experience more things fanaticism becomes hard to maintain.

Well, yes - alongside Harvey, Lawrence, PatrickBooth, Conne, Rambo, Tokyo Slim, and a few others I'm sure I'm forgetting.

I will say that the young lady really liked Some Thievery Corporation at bathtime, for a long time. Now it's part of a mix.

some have the fortune of being young in great eras of music though.... for me I was freaking 10y/o and had the fortune of being around when appetite for destruction was still totally new... then the 90's hit and it was nirvana and the indie revolution...

I remember buying this on tape and the record store guy winking at me while putting it in the bag quickly so my parents wouldn't notice:

now it just kinda... well... is bone dry for super bands.... so bad that the kids are still following the 90's bands heavily...

Not sure how well known this is, but I actually have excellent taste in music--maybe even the best on the whole forum. If you just listen to what I listen to, you'll all do fine.

I'm sorry to hear this. You are a good guy, with a good heart, and you will meet that special someone someday.

All due respect, L'in, pretty sure Piob and I have the best music taste. No offense to everyone else.

If you knew what I listened to, maybe you wouldn't even say such a thing as that. Maybe you would too, of course. It is just such a vexed topic once you get into it.

See that's the funny thing, it was partly annoying because I like being alone. I don't get lonely and the times I do it is just like "I'm bored tonight," deal. I can't explain it very well.

But I do appreciate the kind words.

I'm always intrigued when I hear about friends who've recently divorced/separated that are women that I was interested in the past.... I get that "now I have a chance again!" feeling, even though I'm happily married and content and with a 12 year wedding anniversary coming up soon

And you don't notice when shit is super-deriviative because...you never heard of the original band! I remember being at a concert a few years back (I'm not that old, but I've heard a lot of music)...the band had had some success with the young teen girl crowd and so that comprised much of the audience. The band was pretty new and I doubt they had a full show's worth of songs so they played some rather entertaining covers. It was very disheartening when they started playing a Radiohead tune (and later an old RHCP song IIRC) and there were tons of shrill shrieks of "omg it's a new song, it's so awesome".

Whatever...I just bought tickets to see The New Standards at a jazz club from the table immediately in front of the stage. Everything they do is by definition derivative and I suspect everyone else in the audience will be old enough to have been alive for the originals.

So what is funny is that were she and I to meet up now she would probably not be attracted to me as her type, from what I've gathered, are big, tall white dudes. And now I'm only tall and white. And she's fucking tiny. And pretty.... :embar:

    I <3 short skinny girls.
