For the next month I have to teach an extra class to cover for a colleague who's on medical leave. This will cut into my time for research. It will also require me to get up earlier in the morning than I prefer. I will get paid for it, so that's nice at least. (I'm not getting paid a lot, though.)

An academic not getting paid a lot? I am stunned!

Doug, your in-laws are nuts. I don't know how else to put it.

yep - I am setting quotas right now, I told him I will up his quota 250 K every time my heart rate goes above normal until the end of the meeting. the way it works, his antics could cost him 20K in commissions and bonuses. but I will fire him if he keeps up the shit.

yeah, part of the problem is that its a cultural thing. the guy has 40 cheap suits, all in garish patterns, and a whole bunch of cheap shoes, with long, curly toes. so he doens't see me as well dressed, which I don't care about. and his casual clothes are brigth sweatshirts and jeans and sneakers. which is all fine, until you are in HQ, where we have a dress code that is based on US concepts of business casual. so you have to dress like all the other drones, for 2-3 days a year. how fucking hard is that?

I'm 26 years old. I wear ties without jackets. And even dead drunk I wouldn't think that sneakers and jeans are business casual. It's barely casual casual. How old is this guy?

I teach in 3/4th drop crotch sweats and baggy t-shirts with torn necks because I like to stick it to the man when I work 80 hours a week.

Not when I meet with the director or board, tho.

Looking out the window and realizing that I have a flat tire. This happens far too often (once every 3 months or so), that is what happens when you work at places dealing with scrap metals.
