Don't report to anyone or have anyone report to me and haven't worked anywhere with H.R. for more than a decade.

It's an excellent word, it just doesn't mean what you think it does. But I guess it's a win win situation that at the end of the day adds value, especially when you think outside the box and focus on your core business in a proactive way and improve your processes, just don't drink the Kool-aid.

fang, it is a great word, meaning exactly what I think it does - it takes a sentance - "the guy who reports to me" and puts it into one elegant word "report". a win-win

    Do U also speak/write n "text" n a Biz context? It's also shorter 2 do dat.

When you ask for a project from your team, and they provide reports that are extremely similar to one another, yet not what you want, perhaps you might want to step back and consider exactly who made the mistake in the whole process. When there are three people below you who all agree that they heard you ask for a specific output multiple times in multiple contexts, only to produce exactly what you described and be told it's wrong, the problem probably isn't your team.

    Hows that? Even more concise.

well, I believe that the person who was posting about this was one of the reports in question, and he was, in fact, suggesting that the mistake was in his bosses hands, which I agree with. I was simply refering to the fact that you always comment when somebody uses the term "reports", which I find funny.

I love it when doctors throw their profession in your face. Not long ago I was taking my wife to an appointment with her oncologist. The main approach to the hospital was closed for road work, and a cop was standing in the intersection directing traffic. A guy in a Mercedes made a partial u-turn in the intersection, then stopped and demanded to know how he was supposed to get to the hospital, completely blocking anybody else from getting through the intersection. After a couple of minutes of waiting I started honking at him - he started yelling at me that he is a doctor and he has to get to the hospital - I yelled back that my wife is a patient and SHE has to get to the hospital!

    ^ I do now.

"reports" is one of the only words of its ilk that I have embrassed, basically because I was looking for a word like it for a while. I am not an owner, so "employee" isn't accurate, and "teamate" isn't accurate, when I say "regional managers" (which is the tittle of my reports) sometimes it seems to imply that I report to them, which isn't accurate. "report" works well.
