1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Sure, I can understand that. If it came down to that for me, it would have to be the last resort.

This has been the trip from hell.

I'm in a different country, there was supposed to be a hotel for me, apparently there isn't. Literally, every room in this city is booked.

I can't get what I need to go do work. And that wouldn't be a big deal if I had somewhere to go tonight.

NO ONE i was talking to has responded to an email or call from me about any of these issues for 24 hours now.

I honestly have no idea what to do. I'm camped out in the lobby of this hotel just waiting for an answer on something. Supposedly some people here are trying to find me a room. The worst part is is that I just knew this trip would be a disaster and I had a chance to pull out earlier this week but told my boss I would go.

Oh, and flying down I got upgraded to first class but it was an odd bulkhead so I had less room than in coach, and sat next to a dude who wouldn't shut up. Like I had headphones on AND was going back to sleep and he was still talking, It was a midnight flight.

ETA: because the Bar is next week, my GF isn't helping because she's stressed out and I just can't deal with that at the moment.

My neighborhood hired off duty police patrols when we had a problem with break-ins. Worked very well.

This sounds really awful. I hope you're not having to deal with jet lag, too.

maybe a SFer can put you up, Edina. unless you're in Miami, in which case that is a terrible idea that you shouldn't pursue

ugh. stay safe.. I admire your stalwartism for your city, but this sounds crazy for me.. and look where I LIVE!

    where the hell are you?

    +++++

woke up early and checked my fb, and saw this post by a friend's wife saying something like "we (her and her husband) will go through this.." so I checked with someone else on what's happening and found out my friend is in the hospital and he had to get opened because the doctors found out he has an enlarged heart and they wanna know what's wrong. his brother later informed us that they found a blocked artery and he has to go through an angioplasty on monday. I'm not that close to this friend, but he's someone I really respect and he's a pretty decent guy and a great family man. he's also maybe a couple of years older than me, and aside from his weight issues is pretty healthy. the reason he went to a doctor in the first place was to get a clean bill since he signed up for an Ironman event.

Smoke detectors. Of course it's always 2am when their batteries start dying. Who wouldn't want a loud directionless beep once a minute echoing around your house, forcing you to blunder aimless around in the dark until you find the MFing thing? This is exactly why people never replace the damn things.

Also, TIL I actually had three smoke detectors on the top level of my house. Had, because all three have now woken up me in the middle of the night with their death chant.

Maybe you just have oddly quiet smoke detectors and your house is actually on fire.

Thanks guys. I'm the same timezone at least. Unfortunatley no SFers here (or I strongly doubt there are).

Anyway,I got a room for last night, but the hotel isn't sure if I can stay here tonight. Work didn't pick up on my hints that I want to leave early.

Well, I had to explore the whole house to figure out where the stupid beeping was coming from, so I probably would have noticed if it were on fire. Turns out it was in my bedroom. Didn't even know there was one in there.

Um, dude, you should have a smoke detector in every bedroom. Not having one in your bedroom is, well, just not wise.

I think they tell you to change all your batteries twice a year, but once a year is good enough IMO, not that I'm an expert. Just pick a day, say, Jan. 1, and roll through your whole house with a pack of batteries.
