I am fucking annoyed. I had an interview scheduled (this is the same place I've interviewed at like 2 or 3 times already) for today. Looked good until an hour and a half before, when a bunch of us got assigned a project that had to be done ASAP. :fu:

The interviewers didn't really care, and one of them is the person trying to get me this job. We rescheduled for early next week. Still, I hate doing that to people.

I don't know what your guys' budget is for tech stuff, but a simple UPS that can get you 5 minutes of uptime to shut down your computer isn't terribly expensive. Of course, having someone shut it down is also key...

We've got desktop voltage-regulating UPS units on every computer, and the servers have two rather large UPS units that can go a good while. That said, we lost one phase to the building, so part of the office was at 60-80 volts while another part was normal 120V. I blundered by not checking the server room and then getting dragged outside to look at the poles servicing our building to discern whether we needed to call the utility service or an inside electrician. Then it hit me to check the servers and - they both had some time on them but we were scrambling to get orders out the door so I had people still trying to work by partial lighting - which is a surreal and mildly frustrating experience when you're trying to have an orderly shutdown.

I think I'm doing alright so far. I chose a good mama for him, too, so that helps.

I'm glad to hear the little one is okay. Scary stuff.

Appreciate it, T. I might take you up on that just so I can say we talked!

Thanks, dude. I'm just distancing myself from it all for the time being, but I know it will come around eventually. Being one of the only stable people in the family usually means everyone feels the need to get me as close to the middle of their problems as they can. Here's hoping this turns out to be the exception to that. We'll see.

I had to turn down front row tickets to the NY Philharmonic's Rite of Spring performance last night because of the flu.

my mother goes out for a smoke this morning, doesn't come back for a while. I go looking for her, and I find her in a high end sweater store down the street, buying a 250 buck shawl. very nice, but I'm suporting her, and she doens't fucking need a fucking shawl. so I talk her down. now I have to take away her credit cards. fuck. I can't trust her with cards from now on. fuck

GT, you need to consider putting her into some kind of residential memory care facility.
