Think about how your colleagues with unfavorable schedules and courses will feel? Did they provide their preferences or is it totally up to you?

We do it as cooperatively as possible, but the final decision is mine. Colleagues give me their preferred classes and times, but unfortunately, there are very difficult constraints on my ability to get them what they want. For example, if too many people want a Tuesday/Thursday schedule, there won't be enough rooms available to accommodate them all. People who don't do the work of scheduling don't always recognize the very real constraints I'm under, so they get mad at me.

Plus, let's be realistic: even a "bad" schedule in academia is a hell of a lot better than a regular schedule in most other jobs. I'm genuinely amazed when I hear people complaining that they'e got to come into the office five days a week. The horror!

^^ I would refer all complaints to Genevieve, and transcribe her replies back to the complainants.

    ...

Good job GT! I didn't figure you were going to leave 40% of your annual income on the table.

That's one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time!

I can imagine her replies: "Whenever I don't get what I want, I just make of poopah on the walking surface (floor) and then I forget about it. Go make of poopah."

I find it difficult to believe that Genevieve can pronounce "surface".

it depends on the breed. For instance, Jack (our very first cat) has a lisp, while his sister Jill handles the sibilants much better. Jack is accordingly, very ill-tempered because he tries to hiss but it comes out "HIIIIIIIIIIITHHHHHHHHHHH" After the rest of the pets stop laughing he gives us all a MAOW and bats at the nearest person or plant.

    Pets.

She really overuses the word "surface," which she pronounces decently. When she flops down onto the floor, she says "Down to the surface with me!" When she jumps onto the bed she says "I'm comin' up to the surface now." And when she wants to sit in my lap, she looks up at me and says "Warning, I am approaching the surface betimes." (She also loves the word "betimes," which she often misuses.)

You still have your ordinary one though, right?

Looking on the bright side, your luck really has to start turning around soon. Seems like you've had your whole year's allotment of bad luck in the last few weeks.

Well that's even better, since you can just stop doing the things that are causing your misfortune!

Buying clothes for women sucks ass. It's like, should I go for the smaller size and it ends up not fitting or get the bigger size and end up offending her?
