assuming you are measured against confirmed orders and not money in the bank, can you influence or give some incentive to the first order to sign the contract now, and you won't bill him until next year?

or he can even pay you now if he has procurement budget left - i'm able to play this kind of procurement shell game with suppliers - sometimes it's even doubly to my advantage because I usually have money left over at the end of the year that I lose if I can't spend

I almost whipped my cellphone into the east river today after a call with my sister:

I mentioned before in this thread that she came up with this haphazard plan to get all three siblings together for an impromptu family reunion with my parents. She also planned to buy plane tickets on a whim (which she can't afford) with the implied logic that I'll shoulder the costs after wards. She didn't bother to check with anyone's schedule or if I'd be willing to pay either.

Well she calls me today and explains that she already bought the tickets and they all leave from SFO. She fucking expects me to fly from JFK out to San Francisco so we can all "fly together for fun!". Even better the flight back from HKG is to SFO. So apparently I have to spend what amounts to another whole round trip ticket to fly to and from SFO (adding two days to the whole ordeal/planning) with extra flights (JFK-SFO and SFO-JFK).

I tell her to cancel my ticket because I know for a fact that round trip Cathay Pacific Flights from JFK-HKG are pretty much the same price to SFO-HKG flights. She tries to explain that she thought that it would be a lot cheaper to fly out of SFO.

I start to go ballistic on her and she starts crying on the other end. I let her applogize and calm down and tell her that it just doesn't make sense for me to fly out to SFO (too much time wasted on everyone's end) and that we'll all see each other when we arrive at my parents house anyway.

5 minutes later I get a "serious" call from my mother and father who are mad at me for berating my sister. They formally state that I should pay for all the tickets now. [ I know ] they know and feel that I'm in the right, but they are making me do this to appease my sister who was probably in hysterics and might just bail on this whole trip/thing she planned in the first place.... good times.

^ I hate it when my sister goes crying to our parents. I am the favourite but they will do absolutely anything to make her stop crying (which usually means I have to be the one to apologize AND I have to mean it). Sisters....

she gets upset when you look better in her clothes than she does?

    I know the feeling. :hide:

Larry, I'd bail on the whole deal and tell them to figure it out on their own. I've done that and it was hard for a while but things are much better now.

^ that sounds like the best thing to do. its just that my parents are getting older and it could be theoretically the last time we all are together. My father has recovered nicely from his stroke last Xmas, but it just feels like they are getting past the age of being able to really take care of themselves.

man i get all chewed up inside thinking about losing my parent(s) and having to deal with everything (flying half way across the globe and dealing with all the logistics). they're in their mid/late 70's and it just feels like its creeping up on me.

no. older sister and brother. they are 9 and 8 years older than me. I'm close and great friends with my siblings, its just recently that I've really been blunt/honest with my sister's antics. she's the kind of lame roman catholic that will actually justify her impulsive/bad decision making by praying for hours at wednesday novenas* :fu:

    *
she will say things like: "I know its short notice, but I was praying at St. XXXXX church during the wednesday midnight novena and we should all get together and fly out to mom and dad next week. " as in she'll front the news with her previously praying about it - to justify whatever. I would just let it slide before, but now I call her out on it.

That's a tough situation. Honestly, at this point I'd probably put up with it and play nice.

The other answer is that you should pray more that your sister wins the lottery.

maybe I didn't understand this right but are you really worried about the logistics part of your parents passing away?

5% more or less. it's doable, just means that I need to really hustle and call in some markers and so on

there are lots of things in place to try to keep me from doing exactly that, and exactly that is what I will be trying to do for the next 2 weeks. we have a system that really is good, in terms of managment of the company, not for me - all the managers are compensated in ways that pretty much oppose each other - I get growth, regional sales guys on sales, credit guy on how little outsanding we have, shipping guy on how little orders we have that haven't shipped, etc. so it is very hard to play games without somebody getting fucked. but I brought in 70-80 K today, I think I have 500K coming in on one order in the next week, it will happen in drips and drabs.
