Damn I thought it was Tuesday. Got home late and didn't have anything ready to cook so figured I would go to the corner bar that has $5 burgers and $4 drafts on Tuesday.

Only after did I realize I am now getting screwed with a bar burger that is ok at $5 but a total ripoff at more than double that.

Worst part is that tonight is wing night and I actually really like their wings but am never able to come on a Monday.

this indigestion is driving me crazy and to top it off, I spent an hour looking up pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer last night because as I was lying down groaning and complaining to myself patrick swayze's widow comes on tv and they were interviewing her and I saw "pancreatic cancer" on the ticker and I was half-asleep thinking "oh shit, maybe I got that too!" ugh.

well, on the one hand you are probably right, it would be hard to paint most european countries well in terms of the first decades of the 20th century, but I would argue that Germany really doesn't come off well. and, I agree with you, some of the best art and literature in the world, and some of the best science and engineering in teh world came out of germany in the early 20th century. but, most of those writters, scientists, artists and philosophers were persecuted by their own people. germany descended into a horrible civil war for most of the 20's - so if you figure that Germany was going through an unpleasant militarization of the culture in the 00's, and then a horrible world war in the teens, and then a brutal civil war in the 20's, and then nazism in the 30's, what really do you haved that shows germany in a positive light in these years, aside from individuals that were persecuted by thier country men and their governments?

Was so tired after work today that I took a 'nap' and woke up 4 hours later at 11 PM. Instead of eating out with my managers, I am forced to eat this shitty cheeseburger and chicken mcbites from mcdonalds.

It tastes so gross and I feel so gross at the same time.. :(

There was no German civil war in the 20s. There was a revolution that lasted for about 8 months at the end of WWI that over threw the Monarchy and then the suppression of various communist uprisings for the next few years. I'd say that's positive, rather than your characterizing it as being a brutal civil war.

So in the 00s and teens Germany industrialized its military much like the rest of Europe. It was engaged in a horrible war in the teens much like the rest of Europe. In late teens and 20s Germany successfully overthrew the Monarchy without it being replaced by communism unlike any other contemporary country in Europe. Then it managed to overcome economic disaster caused by the war and the Treaty of Versailles (until Black Tuesday of course). And during this period, especially pre-WWI Germany changed from being a country renowned for producing cheap crap to one with a reputation for excellence in design and manufacture, our stereotype of the efficient German comes directly from this period. And another thing "most of those writers, scientists, artists and philosophers" were not persecuted during this period. So at least until 1929, (a third of the century) there were plenty of positives in Germany that could be the subject of historical documentaries and no more negatives than anywhere else in Europe.

Fang speaks truth. Your actual knowledge is refreshing, because it is clear that your education in history didn't have its roots in cable television.

It is becoming incredibly difficult for me to keep from jumping into this conversation and dropping a massive shit bomb. I just don't like taking the bait of people who don't know what they're talking about. To say that Germania has "persecuted" the vast majority of its major/minor political, scientific, artistic, and other cultural figures throughout its existence as a homogeneous culture sounds tragically uninformed.

Me thinks this conversation should end with Fang's previous informed response.

Is it bad that I have no idea what he is talking about? Is it worse that I don't care? Or is that normal in America?
