Don't make it not joyful. Focus on what she can do and on what she enjoys. She probably enjoys her life and being around family. People adjust.

Focus on what she has left, not that she doesn't have long. Don't project your discomfort with death onto her. We all die.

Sorry to hear that. My grandmother has been nearing the end for the better part of 3 years. She is 96. Mentally she is gone, but physically she is incredibly healthy. I dont know which is worse.

The worse if when they understand how frail and close to the end they're..

It is quite poignant to listen to the good old times from someone knowing his path will finish soon.

My Mum died from a brain tumour and the hardest times were she was able to understand and process the fateful evolution she was facing...

When she lost contact with reality , she was in a way more serene..

Gatorade + salty foods = better in a few hours. Trust me.

Good luck to you both. It's a hard thing to watch.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to stay positive; Gram has no problem doing that, she's still living it up and smiling. I'd be so miserable if I were in her situation.

i have seen both, and i dont think either one is better or worse. each has its own set of pros and cons. either way it is difficult.

she has no doubt lived a long, happy and productive life, and has seen and experienced a great many things, happiness and sorrow. i imagine she knows what is in store, and accepts it. its hard for a younger person to grasp that, but i have seen it in some of my great/grandparents that lived into their mid 80s and beyond.

I know this is cliche, but she has done a lot of living. The sad part is that she is only 65. But this is the hand we've been dealt, so we'll have to deal with it. It's just hard at times.

Same here. I talked to my grandmother on the phone, just talking makes her very winded.

dog adoption place called and I spoke to the "head guy".... neck tattooed girl apparently was distraught after being "verbally assaulted" by my wife.

he was hinting that he had the power to put my wife and I on a blacklist to all the other NYC animal adoption agencies.

I was actually kind of laughing during the conversation, but it really looks like we're going the puppy from a kennel route.
