im not a pet guy so maybe im missing something here, but the following really irks me.

i see people park outside my store all the time, and come in to shop for sometimes well over an hour, and they leave their dog in the car. its like 20 degrees outside. isnt the dog freezing its ass off? why not just leave it at home? i thought when you buy a pet you are committing to care for it. whats the deal?

They are morons. When I lived in SoFLA you would see the reverse: people leave dogs in the car for over an hour in 95+ degree weather. Either don't bring your dog with you or leave the heat / AC on when you go into the store.

There are more bad dog owners than you'd believe. Tons of people "love" their dog, but don't adequately exercise, socialize, or train them and then do shit like leave them in the car in unsuitable conditions. I'll leave my dog in the car for a little while in weather like this, it's somewhat insulated in the car and dogs are pretty cold tolerant. But an hour?

I've called the police a few times when I've seen dogs trapped in cars during the summer.

Half the fun of a dog is walking / running with them (or if the dog is large enough, cycling). Also, training them is unbelievably important: sure its a little bit of tough love at the beginning and the dog doesn't like it, but in the long run its better for dog and owner.
