^Yeah I don't really understand that. I thought it was pretty much conventional knowledge that if the guy behind you hits you, it's because he was following too closely and the fault is his..

In other news, on my way into work this morning I saw four of the hottest women I've seen in a month. Envy is a mother fucker.

Yeah, MrG, I'm having a tough time understanding how this ticket went to you. Sounds like he hit you from behind, or sideswiped you when you were in the main roadway.

But I know how these things can defy logic. Definitely take it to court; that's ridiculous.

Actually, MrG... it sounds like he was ahead of you and passing (really cutting you off), which would mean you get the ticket for failing to observe a safe following distance. Still, a buncha bullshit IMO.

So bought a new fridge last night as my current one just died. We didn't want to spend too much as we figure the fridge will stay with the current house when we sell it in a few years but wanted a stainless so it would keep the kitchen modern looking. 1.3k (with taxes in) is a little :fu: as an unexpected expense but whatever. What has me pissed is delviery isn't until next Tuesday. :(

yah fridges are outrageous and at the higher end the pricing makes little to no sense. i'm buying a counter-depth refrig that is (obviously) smaller than its full-size counterpart from the same maker with identical features but actually costs more because they know if you're buying counter-depth you've got an expensive kitchen you're trying to work with.

difference is i get to pay for mine over the next 30 years.

Yeah, I noticed that about counter depth back when we were planning to build and spec'ing the kitchen. I was full of "WTF?" that a smaller fridge cost more. I think your take is correct.

Apologies, my description wasn't great. I guess I don't type well when I'm enraged.

Thomas' description is kind of close. He didn't hit me from behind. I was changing lanes, and he decided to do the same after I'd already started. He was all ragedriver and floored it and tried to get around me. He swung out right, and he clipped my right front as he went on.

The problem is that the cop wasn't on the scene, and he could only go on our statements. Of course, the other driver wasn't going to say "yeah, I did this," mostly because he's a lying asshole, so I got screwed. I understand why the cop had to make the call he did, but he was wrong. The other guy was driving like a maniac, and there wasn't anything I could do to avoid him.

What I've noticed too is that the kind of hyper-aggressive drivers that MrG is talking about seem to be constitutionally incapable of recognizing their own responsibility for the accidents they inevitably cause. When they get into an accident, they become enraged and indignant at the other driver for...what? I guess for being on the same stretch of road while they were driving like lunatics.

Sometimes, completely out of the blue, my cat just goes bonkers and starts sprinting around the house. Sometimes she causes a plate or a glass or a lamp to come crashing to the ground. When she does this, she gets angry and starts hissing. She doesn't seem to understand that she is the one who caused the thing to fall and make a loud noise. But she is a cat.

ok, but I know where you are coming from. isn't it a little cool that you can go out and buy a fridge on the spur of the moment because you need it, and just pull the cash out of your pocket and not worry about it?

a few years ago the same thing happened to me, and I had the realization that if that had happened to my folks we would have had to go without a friedge for a few months to scrape up the money.

Yes, it is very nice that such an expense just means not as much gets put into savings this pay period. I can well remember the days where I would return soda and beer bottles for change to do my laundry at the laundromat.

I was backing out my roadbike for a quick lunchtime workout (its basically the only 45min-1hr I get to sweat) and the chain came off. I then tried to slip the chain back on but then the whole rear derailleur went out of adjustment. I quickly try to adjust/fix it and realize that i wasted 15min so I decide i'll just take my commuter bike out instead (its actually more fun to take the commuter bike out on a quick williamsburg bridge-soho-manhatan bridge loop). My commuter/city bike has a fucking flat. I can change a flat tire quickly but it still takes at least 10min so I decide to go for a run instead. I'm 5min into my run when the wife calls and she needs me to check out a piano that we might buy for her nephew's birthday gift. Its only a mile away so I decide to just run to the address thats selling it. I get to the house and its an old lady angry at me that i'm all sweaty and wet (its raining too). She then tries to show me this baby grand piano thats a great piano but her price is only $300 less than something brand new. She's now angry that I'm not interested, and even insinuates that I couldn't afford it anyway. I see a laptop on her table and show her what a brand new one costs, and she actually looks really sad/deflated. I felt bad for doing that, but then realize I'm running late and start jogging back home.

My cousin with the condo on Lake Conroe just posted a picture of the condo from the dry lake-bed. I didn't recognize it - normally the water's at least 3 feet deep at that point! It was a startling image, looked like a desert resort.

All Hallows is eminent... your cat is seeing spirits wandering about your house.
