Thin Automatic Watch

Stylistically, my favorite watch to wear is Tag Heuer Monaco. Unfortunately, it is on the thickish side and often impedes my shirt (and jacket) sleeve movement (yes, I know it is not a dress watch).

Could someone recommend a good quality thin automatic watch? It would be nice if the price is no more than $2,500 or so (although I would spring more for the right watch).

Of course, a watch with styling similar to TH Monaco would be great (but not required).

Thanks.

Here's a beautiful vintage Breitling that looks relatively thin. Certainly not in the same style as the Monaco, however:

I particularly like the fact that the face looks to be original. You might have to brush up on your french days of the week.

You'll have better luck finding a thin, classic looking watch in a manual wind. The 60's had some very thin manual winds in a relatively classic look, not as beautiful as the 50's and 40's watches IMO.

The JLC watch (I forget the model name) Is a beaty. IIRC, it's 7 large though.

You can try to drum up something on Ebay that is "vintage" (Longines) as most of what you will find are both smaller in case diameter and thickness.

If thinness is your primary concern, you should look at manual-wind watches, which do not have a rotor to take up extra space.

This Cartier Roadster is fairly thin, as far as automatic sports watches go.

One of the thinnest watches ever made was by Audemars Piguet in the '50s and '60s. I think the movement was about 1.5mm thick. Of course it's an hand-wind.

This watch does not qualify as thin but you might want to check out the Hamilton Jazzmaster Square. There is a chrono version as well.

Thought I'd throw it out there in case you were not aware of that particular watch and had some money left over after purchasing your dress watch.

Btw, I wear a Monaco to the office and I love it. No real issues with cuffs or anything.

Good luck.

Its dimesions about 40mm are larger than the MUT's but I think it really gives the slim watch a more contemporary feel. Not as thin but more affordable are some of the Nomos watches. They run in the 1-1,5 K range.

I was after a cheap (in watch terms) slim automatic some months ago and settled on a Longines Conquest. Suits me just fine. It looks subtle, elegant and in proportion to my wrist.

I might add I am looking for leather rather than stainless steel bracelets.

Thank you all.

I was looking for a dressier watch on a leather strap and ended up buying a vintage Omega Seamaster Automatic for around $250 on timezone.com. It has some "age spots" due to it being over 40 yeas old, but I like that look. You may want to look around for a vintage watch since they tend to be thinner, smaller, and cheaper. If you don't like the "vintage" look, you can find one that's been refinished. The guys at timezone.com are very helpful and will tell you if a watch is authentic if you send them pictures.
