Thigh rub in the crotch - suit trousers trashed after 5 wears :(

I used to participate in competitive weightlifting and I still have relatively bulky thighs at 24" (61 cm). While changing I noticed the crotch of my new suit trousers have developed a lot of fabric rub and balling in the crotch. I'm used to blowing out crotches and jeans where it can be reinforced and repaired but I don't know what the solution is for dress slacks. Can anything be done to fix these pants? What should I do to prevent this from happening again?

Burn the current pair.

If you go to a decent tailor and explain your problem he may be able to cut trousers to minimize it, but is not unlikely that you physique is such that it will remain a problem

I'm not sure it has anything to do with big legs. More to do with how much someone sweats down there and what kind of underwear they wear, I think (of course, how tight the pants are as well).

Senor Rubirosa shared your problem, to a degree. He had his shorts custom-made to accomodate his stupendous johnson. You'll need the same type of work (on your trousers, not underwear!) to accomodate your impressive thighs.....

I don't have anything to add; I'm just here to giggle at the phrase "balling in the crotch".

It has everything to do with big legs! When I was training hard, I did a lot of heavy squatting and had thighs that were about 27.5" in circumference. I ruined the trousers of a bunch of fine suits I inherited. Now that I am not training so hard (being a lot older) and my legs are not so bulky, I don't have the problem anymore.

While I have little experience in excessive crotch rubbage (I don't think that will ever not be funny), having large legs and a small waist, I've typically either had to go a size or three in the waist to accomodate my legs if I'm buying off the rack, or look for cuts that accomodate your legs. I would shop around if you aren't going to go the kilt route.

been through this myself, and for customers. the solution is to plan ahead. if you wait till damage is done, you are not firing on all eight. think ahead.
you can see that the wear is on the outside that's where an extra layer of cloth must be sewn.
the extra cloth will take up the wear, and save the underlying cloth.
when that extra layer wears through it can be replaced.
naturally this can only be done on M2M or custom garments.
it may be done on RTW if you have saved the cutoff from the trouser bottoms.
just show the tailor a trouser with damage and he will know what to do.
everyone should save that cutoff cloth.

Not for me! I have at least 26 inch thighs and I both ruin and don't ruin, depending on whether I'm wearing them in summer or winter (and walking just as much), and what kind of underpants are being worn - anything that bunches up in sweat to rub against the material is a disaster to the jean and my skin. The jeans I'm wearing now are as tight as I've ever worn a jean, and, coming out of winter, show no crotch wear which would have been considerable had I worn them through summer.

I went through a few pairs of jeans and pants like this when I did a lot of heavy leg work. Over the past year I focused more on leaning down than I did size b/c it's easier to buy stuff that fits. Once my legs shrank down the wear subsided dramatically. I've got a few pairs less than a year old that'll still need to be replaced from my quads but otherwise the pants are holding up well.

This is another great reason why I'm pushing my friends to stop lifting so heavy and just work on getting shredded and looking athletic. It's just too hard to find stuff that fits and sometimes you wind up ruining the things you enjoy.

I get the same problem under the arms from some of my old A&S suits. Very tight armholes are comfortable and good looking, but there is a lot of friction that buildsup.

Luckily, it's not easy for anyone else to notice. If they do, I'll just remind them that the suit is 11 years old and pretend to look frugal.
