I have just purchased a Theory dress shirt made with their awesome stretch fabric. The care instructions have three words only....."Dry Clean Only". This is no big deal, but I'm wondering two things.

1> I have a whirlpool fabric freshener. I love it, as it seriously reduces my dry cleaning trips and will make some of my wool products like jackets and pants last much longer. It's a steam chamber that removes odors and some wrinkles. Would that be safe for this fabric?

2> Assuming I can use the freshener, can I iron it? What setting?

Thanks,
Ron

Dry Clean Only is a myth most of the time. there's only a few absolutes, and normally stretch fabrics are not.

More important than the care label is the fabric content. Is it mostly cotton with spandex? Do they use nylon/polyester/rayon/acetate/viscose?

I don't know too much about the whirlpool fabric freshner, but it seems like it should work fine. The only problem might be shrinkage, but that is hard to tell without seeing the fabric in question. Try short cycles first if they have that option.

Most stretch fabrics can shake out wrinkles with a good steaming. I would put it on low/medium heat, with an intervening fabric in between the iron and the fabric and steam it well. That should do the trick.
