I love the idea of the velvet slipper and would love to own a pair or two to mix things up. However, spending $400+ on an item that is meant to add novelty and spice to my wardrobe is a little absurd at press time.

It also appears that with their rising popularity the quest to find a pair at a reasonable price dwindles, save for beaters on eBay. When does the Stubbs seconds thread on B&S start?

Lol, dude, you can get Albert slippers for ~£130! I like them with no-break, slim chinos or jeans. Kanye had way too many stacks on those jeans! I own this pair, with the small skull. I was inclined to get the cannabis logo, but I don't think it would sit right with the general public. http://www.broadlandslippers.co.uk/e...-slippers.html

Even less. I have a pair of these Del Toro's that I like pretty well. I wear mine more as house shoes, but then, I'm old. Pretty good quality for the price.

Yeah, I posted the link before I looked at the prices. They've gone way up in the last couple of years. I think they were originally $130 or so a couple of years ago, then went to $150 or so last time I looked (more for some of the embroidery). Now they're up to $235 for the plain ones. More than I thought. Nice shoes though.

It's a shame. I tend to stick to Loake and such, as it's cheaper! I would like to splash out on some C&J double monks (cos they're so damn pretty), but prices are the ultimate nemesis.

Depending on fit, I might pick up a pair of plain ones from BB.

Excerpt from article...

"Mr. Clay, who says he has lost count of how many pairs he owns, is attracted to the slippers' comfort. Besides, 'shoes for men are all pretty similar, so the velvet slipper is nice for variety.'"

seriously?!?!
