While were on the subject of the World Cup I wanted to ask some of our avid soccer fans who they believe to be the best all around soccer stars in the world today....

A top five or ten will suffice, just curious as I'm not as familiar with the sport as I'd like to be.

Ooh this could be opening a can of worms, but here are my choices in no particular order:
Wayne Rooney-England
Steven Gerrard-England
Thierry Henry-France(seems to struggle in big games though)
Ronaldinho-Brazil
Lionel Messi-Argentina
Andriy Shevchenko-Ukraine
Carlos Puyol-Spain
Michael Essien-Ghana
Petr Cech-Czech Republic
Juan Roman Riqueleme

I have gone for a youthful 10,there are some very good players getting to the end of there careers,Zidane,Ronaldo and my all time favourite ROY KEANE!

Keano! Your list is a little light on the Italians, so I'll favor them

Add:
Kaka - Brazil (AC Milan)
Frank Lampard - England (Chelsea)
Fabio Cannavaro - Italy (Juventus)
Gianluigi Buffon - Italy (Juve)
Samuel Eto'o - Cameroon (Barcelona)
Francesco Totti - Italy (AS Roma)

Can't argue with any of those, left Lamps out because I didnt want people to think it had an England bias.
Love Totti but left him out due to his long injury lay off.
Buffon is a great keeper but I cant see past that price tag.(Although I know thats not his fault).

Puyol may not even be the best Spainard. My vote goes to Cesc Fabregas. Watch out for him, he will develop into the next Ronaldinho.

He may well do,but he is not there yet hence no place in Spain's team yesterday.

He is still a dangerous player. He was the Golden Boot winner in the 02WC and has long been one of the best strikers in the game. He seems to not give effort more than anything physical sometimes.

I don't really care about how "famous" a soccer player is. My FAVORITES are

Ruud Van Nistelrooy (currently of Manchester United/Netherlands national team)

Demarcus Beasley (Chicago Fire/US national team)

Thierry Henry (Arsenal/France national team)

Pavel Nedved (semi-retired Juventus/ Czech national team)
