For you Rain last guys who have had trouble fitting it, the Detroit is much better in terms of overall volume. I am a 10EE and the Rain in a UK 9.5 is an ok fit, certainly not ideal.

Detroit, again is quite a bit better.

^^^To give you an idea, Detroit in UK 9.5 is still about 1/16-1/8 inch thinner than C&J 325 in US 10.5D, the 325 is still a touch wider.

But wider where? Ball? Toe? Heel? All over?

this is my concern. On the 325 last (marlow wingtip), I still had to size up to a US 9. If we are talking about getting a group together to order something, the point would be to get it in a wide width, not order where we all have to size up.

I feel like the Detroit is thinner than the 325 at the ball. Interesting though, I have zero heel slippage now that I think about it.

Which is nice. I have a small amount of heel slip on my left foot on the 325.

    Gentlemen,

I apologize for not being clear.

I was just simply suggesting the Detroit over the Rain due to its robust nature.

Detroit is one of the lasts that Carmina does indeed make wide widths in.

If we were to do a group MTO, I too would be only for wide last sizes.

At this point in my sartorial footwear journey, I am done making sizing mistakes, i.e. sizing up if I do not have to.

    Thanks!

On another note, if we choose to stick together in this thread and pull the trigger on group MTO's in wide sizes, this thread has the potential to really be something special.

Quote: This is why I told @peppercorn78 when he asked a week ago that I wouldn't do a GMTO, because I had such a bad experience at a Carmina store trying to get fitted. Now, reading, I think it's more about having had a bad SA that didn't know anything about widths, but I still worry that I'll order and end up with something I can neither fit nor return.

I'm done with shoes that don't fit!

well, let's see what Vass will do for us, and how much it will cost. I can always go to NMWA here in NYC and get fitted, especially if they're organizing the GMTO. Only thing is that in order to take advantage of european exchange rates in our favor, wouldn't it be better to go directly through the company?

Yes it would be cheaper, but my understanding is that US customers can no longer order direct from Vass.

What about a European shop we could go through that would not gouge us?

That's why I offered to organise a Vass GMTO from outside the US. Bear with me, I will PM you all when I get a reply.

mimo, I'm definitely interested in a Vass GMTO. PM me, please (I think you're the one who coaxed me into the V-cap adelaide GMTO a while back...time for another go-round, I guess :)).

How does everyone feel about the S last in H-width? I've yet to see the S last out in the wild and kind of want to try it out.
