The White Shirt Poll

You can never go wrong with a white shirt.

I voted "very frequently." If I'm wearing a sportcoat and tie ---> blue or patterned shirt. If I need to wear a suit and a tie, it's invariably for a reason, i.e. not office dress code, so I often wear white.

I have very dark hair with white skin (high contrast as they call) and it is a great background for my clothes..tHE SAME WAY, I do find white shirt interesting because they do provide the same effect with darker suits..
With a bit of sunshine and the darker we're getting ,the better the white shirt will be looking on you...They go with everything from semi-casual to formal...
White shirts can be ghastly if you're extremely pale and you do associate them with cream colours and that is a current mistake..

Wearing them more and more.. Used to wear maybe 2 or 3 days a month.. Now probably 4 to 5 days a month..

Out of my 30 dress shirts only 4 are white. I work in a business casual environment and very rarely wear ties. I only wear the white shirts when I do wear ties. I'd say that I only wear a suit once every other month. The white shirts usually come out on suit day, but I also like to wear the white shirts when I throw on a tie and sportcoat. I've noticed some people say they like blues or patterns with sportcoats...is white wrong with the sportcoat/tie arrangement?

Once every week or two. I'm wearing one today -- a gorgeous white waffle weave FC Borrelli I just got from Lance -- along with a gray flannel suit and a gray glen plaid RLPL tie. A monochrome gray day, just like the weather in Atlanta today.

I wear plenty of white shirts, but since I have a ruddy complexion ecru is a better color for me. Fot those of you with dark hair and light, easily sunburnable skin that turns rudddy for three seasons out of the year, you might want to give ecru a try.

White shirts are classic. It's like the canvas and everything else (your tie, jacket, etc.) is just the paint.

I wear them only when I feel I "have to", i.e. for meetings where expectations are for very conservative dress. Probably 10-15% of suit days

Couple of times a year during the winter at most. I like white linen and linen-cotton for summer, so I wear them more often.

What about at night? I think a white shirt looks a lot better under dim, artificial light than a blue one.

Interesting; you take pains not to wear one at night. I'm the opposite. If my single white shirt is clean, and I have time to go home and change into a dark suit, I always put it on.

+1. A nice white shirt will sparkle in dim lighting while even the best blue shirt will fade into colorlessness. It's no accident formal shirts are always white.
