Is this style of shirt too 'power' for today's business set?

Is it still elegant and refined or does it conjure negative "Gordon Geeko" "power" or other undesireable characteristics?

I can't decide; I really kind of like the look, but it also may be too ostentatious in many ways. It also calls to the DB suit to me.

Your thoughts?

Love them, and I think it is the full ensemble that makes the difference.

Kudlow pulls them off every day.

I like to use the look sparingly myself but I do like to use it.

That shirt isn't too bright so doesn't look too 'power' to me at all.

One thing though, contrast collar shirts usually taek French cuffs. That's the only thing I'd ding the shirt for.

Hate it. I can't think of something I like less than contrast collar and cuffs. It is fine for others, but for me...blaah. Not my style. YMMV.

Like Cantabrigian said, with barrel cuffs they have a Men's Warehouse thing about them.

Also, does anyone else find the buttons on that shirt really odd?

I own one, and I'm constantly on the lookout for more. The beauty of it is that the white collar really frames the face nicely. RLPL make some with spread collars, which are quite lovely if you stay away from the purple/green multistripe configurations.

Interestingly, most don't seem to have the white cuffs, just the collar, which doesn't look nearly as good IMHO.

The beauty of the look, I think, is that you can wear a darkish suit, a shirt with a subtle stripe or pale coloured body, and a fairly conservative tie, and still have the look "pop"...

The hiehgtened formality really calls for some sort of link cuff.

I have four dress shirts that are white collar and white french cuffed, and I really like the look. That Finnamore shirt looks like it might have been made by Kiton from looking at the buttons. The pattern isn't bad, although I abhor any dress shirts that have contrasting white button cuffs instead of french cuffs. Additionally, those contrast collar shirts aren't quite as versatile as regular dress shirts, which can be worn casually open buttoned with a pair of trousers. White collar/white cuff shirts really need to be worn with the full suit and tie. I have seen Donny Deutsch sport them casually, but I don't find the look particularly pleasing.

Don't blame the shirt it's probably just Donny.

Don't like them. At all.

Always seemed rather classist to me; perhaps that's because everyone I knew who wore them was classist. Anyway, if you're wearing a nice blue or pink sirt and you're showing cuff, and the cuff doesn't match the shirt front, doesn't that just feel, and look, odd?

I wear them all the time, but do not wear the one pictured; they should have french cuffs.
