theres never any reason to think this hard or analytically about getting dressedI agree that the jacket definitely doesn't work here (i do think it's a nice jacket though).
Jacket aside, IMO either the shirt or pants should change just on the basis of color. The combination of yellow (may be off-white, but looks yellow) and brown screams smelly old grandpa or Dwight from The Office for me. Either would be fine on their own, it's just that combo not working for me.
If you keep the bottom half you could do a forest green textured sweater. Or for something more fashion-y maybe a longcoat or blouson and loose textured tee.
If you keep the top half, just something other than those brown loose pants.
