1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    you wondered right!

from the jews across the pond i have met, your eyes do not deceive you. american jews largely wear fedoras, with some wearing hombergs, and in the UK, visa versa. at least from what i have seen and who i know.

Another rare cross-post for me from MC to celebrate the second outing of the new custom made hat. Yes the suit needs pressing...

    very nice, MoK.

i really never would have thought twice about it, but now that you point it out, its pretty clear what you mean about the high hat style vs. the low hat style. i would feel very odd wearing my hat the way you are, around here people would look at me funny for wearing it that low, everyone would say the hat is too big, and yet it looks quite right in your pic. interesting how our minds are trained to view things.

glad you brought that to light.

i have considered posting with my tzitzit out, but i feel it crosses the border of being sacrilegious for me to show them solely for the sake of making a spectacle out of them.

    would be fun though.

they have all the jewish styles and more!

mine is a borsalino trinfo. they make them in a bevy of syles, all kinds of variances in brim, crown and ribbon size, rim or no rim on the brim, and with many different types of pinches.

    GO CRAZY!!!!

Akubra do the Fed IV if you want an off-the peg tall crowned fedora (I like them enough that I've got three): http://hatsdirect.com/cgi-bin/products.cgi?group=Federation

Most modern felt hats are pretty low-quality and low-crowned but going custom made isn't that expensive. I've only had hats made by Mike www.Northwesthats.com (there's a facebook page as well with further photos), and Tim at CaneRodMaker - no website but pm me if you want his email address. Both do excellent work at a good price. I can pass on contact details of other custom hatters whose work has been recommended to me, but I don't own any of their hats.

If you've got the patience vintage can be a good option...

Straw wise - I'm not that into straws (blame it on the UK weather) so have just picked up cheap panamas from various places.
