writing lessons for jello lover

This week, I was privileged to visit the M5 showroom in SoHo. M5 represents an array of brands including Nigel Cabourn, C.P. Company, Duvetica and a personal favorite, Boglioli. The label has a tremendous following in Europe and Japan and recently it has gained huge popularity here in the United States.
This week, I had a chance to check out Boglioli's S/S collection at the M5 showroom in SoHo. M5 also represents Nigel Cabourn, C.P Company, Duvetica, among others. Although Boglioio has a dedicated following in Europe and Japan, only recently has the brand made inroads into the US.

I'm critical of how so many things will set off teger on tangents, but the silver lining is that he throws in some worthy targets. This modern wave of guys who care about what they wear seems to be made up mostly of people who seemingly signed up to receive some mystic Street Blogger Starter Kit: Camera, Tumblr URL, note cards of buzz words and phrases to use (timeless, classic, Made in USA), pin-rolled pants, and horrendous writing skills, all stuffed into a Filson 257.
Some guys pull it off well, but there are so many that end up looking more costumey than any goth ninja ensemble could ever afford someone. There's such an obvious attempt to stand out through it all ("look at all of the crazy shit on my wrists!"), but it happens within such a narrow range of sartorial choice that there's still a copy-cat effect to it. It's like Night of the Living Dead, except instead of human flesh, these guys are craving re-blogs of their "candid" WAYWT snap shots.

it's a huge circlejerk. they all 'feature' each other on their blogs, and low rent fashion magazines (hello esquire) solicit their opinions on meaningless #menswear topics like 'how to look breezy in the summer' or 'looking stylish at all ages.' it's like a perpetual motion machine of bullshit. the saddest part about these bloggers is that they don't even realize that companies let them into their showrooms as a form of free advertising, not because they write so eloquently. phat guido puts all these dipshits to shame.

You guys need to let it go and follow other blogs. The circlejerking is 1) nothing new 2) inherent to the way tumblr works. Visual blogs will always have poor written content, I don't mind it as long as the topic is of some interest. Comparing twenty something beasting over double monks to Phat Guido doesn't make any sense.

You got your suit fit dialed. Perfect cuff/ever so slight break and jacket length. Way better than the 3-button Gumby suits

Fake Ricks? This is so over the top great, I'd love to see it in person just to watch the expressions on the passersby. It's been asked before, but I don't remember the response: How does the Megaman do as a winter coat?

Stanley van Buren....how that name rolls off the tongue....you look good. Not quite Don Draper or Roger Sterling...the pink shirt and the March Hare shoes stop it short...Plus you don't quite instill fear, but maybe that's because I know you're only 5'10". There is no way I can compete with this. I can't beat 200 years of classic American breeding. You win. Hands down.

I'm a masochist. The problem is that I'm privy to this sort of content via re-blogs from people who actually post interesting content otherwise.

Coincidentally, a friend of mine posted some shitty Instagram pictures from Halloween, including my last-minute hipster costume. Not visible is my homemade album cover from Band You've Never Heard Of that I set down 10 minutes into the night, because seriously, fuck carrying around props all night.

my problem with his blog is that it reads like an offense to the english language. the awkward, borat-esque sentence structure, the random italics, and the ridiculous pretentious tone... it all reads as if he believes that wearing thom browne will make up for the fact that he has the communication skills of someone with a traumatic brain injury bashing his head on the keyboard. even worse, his style sucks. its everything that's bad about this bullshit cult of #menswear blogging... you're wearing a gigantic vintage style hiking backpack with your honestly bizarre mixture of american and british tailoring? beyond the humor found in the deeper cultural irony of a short asian kid from singapore adopting the stylistic preferences of the imperial powers, its really the unoriginality thats truly offensive.

Besides, brother--that fuck has my bag! It was stolen from me on the NYC subway last fall. He didn't even know the precise name of the brand....had some mis-spelt crap on his blog. I asked him about the serial number sewn on the inside...no reply! I don't know if it's only "his" bag that he got through fences...

I got the most random, hideously dirty look today from some girl just driving by. Like, ferocious. It was really odd. Don't know if the clothes are the explanation, but still.
